This position is also being announced to applicants eligible to apply through Merit Staffing procedures under 26-WAW-12890287-MS.Qualifications:GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level. Specialized experience is defined as serving as a secretary or principal office assistant performing tasks such as receiving visitors and telephone callers; establishing and maintaining a variety of files; maintaining calendar, to include scheduling appointments, interviews, and conferences and providing reminders of commitments; and making travel arrangements. GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as serving as a secretary to the chief of a unit of a large law firm (or equivalent) and performing a wide range of high-level secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment. Examples of specialized experience include exercising control over the supervisor's calendar for appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences without needing to seek prior approval; personally taking care of many matters and questions including answering substantive questions not requiring technical knowledge; drafting replies to general inquiries; composing a variety of written material that varies in subject and format, but typically reflects the supervisor's policies and special interests; developing a variety of recurring reports and documents which involve obtaining information from the staff, subject files or other sources, and formatting the needed information properly. GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level. Specialized experience is defined as serving as a secretary to a supervisor at the Division level of a large law firm (or equivalent) and performing a wide range of high-level secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment. Examples of specialized experience include managing and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the immediate office of the supervisor; exercising exclusive control over the supervisor's calendar for all appointments, engagements, and conferences with complete authority for commitments of time; establishing the supervisor's priorities and arranging, shifting, or cancelling appointments and meetings and accepting or declining invitations based on the supervisor's special interests; editing written material for adherence with the supervisor's established policies, writing style, and previously expressed views; independently dealing with matters addressed to the supervisor that do not require his/her personal attention by referring to appropriate staff members, or personally performing the work needed to resolve the matter; providing supervisor with information, feedback, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations on various administrative matters and topics. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. A typing test may later be required. This position is considered a career ladder opportunity, with a full performance level of GS-09. If selected at a lower grade level, you may be non-competitively promoted to the next grade level at the discretion of your supervisor and is contingent upon meeting regulatory and legal requirements for promotion, satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and funding availability. Promotion is not guaranteed, and no promise of promotion is implied. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
