Job Description: We are looking for an experienced Frontend Technical Architect to lead the architecture and front-end strategy for our composable commerce platform implementation and transformation projects. This is a hands-on technical role that combines defining technical direction, leading implementation efforts, and mentoring a talented team of developers. This is a role for someone who excels at the intersection of technology leadership, hands-on coding, and strategic collaboration. You will partner with cross-functional teams including strategy, design, and backend engineering. You will demonstrate advanced expertise in React, Next.js, GraphQL, and TypeScript, along with a background in delivering enterprise-scale, composable ecommerce architectures. Proficiency with headless CMS platforms and experience designing and implementing API abstractions will be essential for success in this position. This is a remote position reporting to AVP, Front End Development. Responsibilities: React & Next.js Architecture Leadership • Lead the design and implementation of React/Next.js headless frontend architecture supporting SSR, SSG, and ISR rendering strategies • Architect and develop reusable React component libraries, design system integration, tokenization, and design-to-code workflows • Implement Next.js optimization techniques including code splitting, lazy loading, and bundle optimization • Design micro frontend architecture using monorepos and data layer abstractions GraphQL Integration & Data Strategy • Architect and develop GraphQL integration layers connecting frontend to commerce platforms and third-party services • Design type-safe GraphQL integration with generated types and schema validation • Work with backend engineers to develop multi-layered caching strategies, focusing on the GraphQL and Next.js application layers • Establish GraphQL best practices for query optimization and performance monitoring Technical Implementation & Standards • Implement TypeScript-first development practices ensuring type safety across the entire frontend stack • Establish coding standards for maintainable, scalable React/Next.js applications • Leverage modern build tools including Webpack, Vite, or similar module bundlers • Create and deploy npm packages for shared components and utilities • Promote performance metrics using tree shaking, dead code elimination, and asset bundling and optimization best practices Commerce Platform Integration • Lead headless commerce integration strategy with existing commerce platforms • Design API-first approaches ensuring clean separation between frontend and backend systems • Partner with backend developers and business analysts to ensure APIs support requirements and optimal performance • Implement third-party service integrations for enhanced commerce functionality Performance & Accessibility Excellence • Architect solutions for mobile-first responsive design with optimal performance across devices • Ensure accessibility compliance and in-depth knowledge of WCAG standards adherence • Optimize Core Web Vitals and page load times through advanced performance techniques • Implement modern web standards and security best practices Technical Leadership & Collaboration • Mentor development teams while maintaining active hands-on development involvement • Be the technical point of contact for our teams and external stakeholders • Solve complex implementation challenges, both independently and collaboratively • Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery schedules • Ensure security, accessibility, performance, and front-end best practices are applied Required Qualifications • 8+ years of frontend development experience with 5+ years in React and Next.js • Expert-level proficiency in React, Next.js (SSR/SSG/ISR), and modern JavaScript/TypeScript • Deep GraphQL expertise including Apollo Client/Server, schema design, and performance optimization • Track record delivering high-performance, scalable web applications with measurable performance improvements • Experience with headless commerce or composable architecture implementations • Hands-on leadership experience leading technical teams while maintaining active development involvement • Performance optimization expertise with expertise improving Core Web Vitals and page load times • In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and WCAG compliance Technical Stack & Tools • Core Technologies: React, Next.js, GraphQL, TypeScript, JavaScript • Build & Deployment: Webpack, Vite, npm package management, monorepo architectures • Rendering Strategies: Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Static Site Generation (SSG), Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) • Data Management: Apollo Client/Server, GraphQL schema design, multi-layer caching • Architecture: Micro-frontends, composable commerce, headless CMS integration • Standards: WCAG accessibility, modern web standards, security best practices The annual salary range for this position is $113,000-$182,850. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law.
