Job Overview DEEP is seeking a prolific, dynamic, ambitious, perseverant, energetic and skilled Book Sales Agent/Representative specializing in bookstore distribution. In this role, you will be the vital link between the publisher and retail bookstores, driving sales growth, fostering strong relationships, and ensuring the successful distribution of a boutique range of high profile titles. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Book Sales Agent to represent a highly anticipated, flagship titles launching soon. This is not a backlist or low-visibility project — this is a major release with strong commercial positioning, built-in audience momentum, and active marketing support. The selected agent will play a key role in expanding national bookstore placement, building relationships with independent bookstores and retail buyers, and driving early sales velocity for a title positioned for breakout performance. Duties • Actively promote and sell books to bookstore clients through personalized outreach and engaging presentations • Build and maintain strong relationships with bookstore buyers, managers, and distributors to understand their needs and preferences • Expand placement and availability across major U.S. retail channels that report to national bestseller lists, including independent bookstores, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Walmart, Target, and key online retailers. • Identify new sales opportunities by researching market trends and expanding our network of retail partners • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues promptly, and offering tailored solutions • Coordinate order processing, delivery schedules, and inventory management to ensure timely fulfillment • Conduct regular follow-ups to nurture ongoing partnerships and gather feedback for continuous improvement • Stay informed about new book releases, industry developments, and competitors’ activities to refine sales strategies Qualifications • Proven experience in sales in the book publishing or book distribution industry. • Strong network of relationships with bookstores, distributors, or retailers. • Strong communication skills with the ability to present books confidently and persuasively • Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly and maintain long-term client relationships • Energetic attitude with a proactive and ambitious approach to identifying opportunities and overcoming challenges • Knowledge of the book industry, distribution channels, or familiarity with bookstore operations • Must be organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. • Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset and the ability to work independently. • A passion for books and literature, with a deep understanding of the book retail market. • Ability to manage accounts simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail • Familiarity with book sales systems, ordering processes, and retail distribution channels is a plus.
