DEARBORN PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROFESSIONAL STAFF POSITIONS TITLE: Motor Equipment Mechanic QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school graduate with a minimum of five years experience on buses or heavy trucks. 2. Certification by the State of Michigan as Master Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic or thorough knowledge of same. 3. Must be willing to accept further training opportunities (seminars, workshops, etc.) as prescribed and work towards certification in the State of Michigan Mechanics Competency. Also will be required to take a test. 4. Must acquire a valid Michigan Driver's License with a CDL-Type C and B that includes a P endorsement. 5. Be willing to work any shift. 6. Thorough knowledge of the procedures and methods used in maintenance and repair of gasoline/diesel engines of all types used in the school system. 7. Thorough knowledge of all automotive electrical systems including ignition, charging, starting and lighting circuits and ability to service and repair same. 8. Thorough knowledge of both automotive and heavy duty braking systems (air, hydraulic, vacuum over hydraulic) and ability to service, repair and overhaul all types of brake systems. 9. Thorough knowledge of gasoline/diesel engine fuel systems, ability to service and repair same, fuel pumps, etc. 10. Thorough knowledge of engine tune-up methods and procedures and ability to perform same. 11. Thorough knowledge of and ability to service, repair and rebuild all types of vehicle steering systems. 12. Previous experience and training in all phases of automotive and heavy vehicle maintenance and repair desirable. 13. Physically able to perform above assignments. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Transportation Supervisor Assistant Supervisor Head Mechanic PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: • 1. Responsible for maintenance and repair of all Transportation Department vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment, including, but not limited to school buses, trucks, cars, tractors, lawn mowers. • 2. Perform all work on all diesel engines themselves and their related parts such as: a. valve train adjustments b. engine overhauls c. installation of water pumps, compressor, turbo chargers, etc. d. seal replacements • 3. Perform routine safety checks as buses are maintained. • 4. Cooperate with Head Mechanic on the necessary maintenance records for each vehicle. • 5. As time allows, cooperates and assists where needed in all other repairs necessary outside engine compartment. 6. Share the responsibility of maintaining a clean and well organized garage. 7. Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and/or HeadMechanic. • 8. Report any and all unsafe or hazardous conditions.
