Full Description

Summary: The Security Officer is responsible for monitoring the security of the Daybreak grounds and facility during normal day-to-day operations, as well as during emergency situations. The guard provides a visible security presence, monitoring front desk entrance, and observes and reports incidents. The guard enforces rules and controls access at specific checkpoints. Enforcement is exercised in a low key, non-aggressive, professional manner consistent with the overall mission and values of providing safety and stability for youth and young adults in the community. Duties & Responsibilities Provide continuous staffing of the front desk reception area. If the officer is away from the desk, secure the desk area so that visitors may not enter. Greet and engage new and returning clients in a trauma-informed, client-centered manner. Monitor facility entry points, common areas, and client spaces to maintain a secure and welcoming environment. Proactively notifies appropriate staff and working with staff to investigate any suspicious or questionable activity that is observed. Monitor live security camera footage and respond to observed incidents or safety concerns in real time. Conduct regular walkthroughs and safety checks in accordance with agency policies. Oversee the use of the metal detector and perform bag checks and personal item searches upon client and visitor entry, ensuring adherence to prohibited item policies. Check identification, checks belongings and wands clients and others, as needed, prior to entering the facility. Investigate alarms and panics that sound and notifies appropriate staff regarding the nature of the alarm. Intervene in escalating situations using de-escalation techniques and report incidents promptly. Maintain log of visitors, volunteers, and guests. notifies staff of visitors so that they may be greeted by staff and escorted to their appointment or group. Respond to emergency situations including medical crises, threats, or safety hazards. Serve as a point of contact for law enforcement during major incidents. Acts to protect the security of the facility and staff by contacting police when necessary and follows all police directives when they are present on site. Education & Experience Minimum of a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required, associate's degree in criminal justice, psychology, social work or related field preferred Minimum of 3 years of related experience required Skills & Abilities Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, including professional boundaries with staff, clients, and visitors (i.e. no smoking with clients or visitors, no personal disclosure or "chatting" with clients or visitors). Ability to remain calm and composed in crisis situations Strong interpersonal and observational skills with the ability to remain calm during potentially emotionally charged or high stress situations It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Once a conditional offer of employment has been given, Daybreak requires that all prospective employees sign a background check release form and pass pre-employment testing before a start date may be given. Background Check Daybreak is required by State of Ohio law to perform a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting, of eligible applicants. In addition to the fingerprints, Daybreak requires the following additional background checks. Federal Exclusion databases including: National Sex Offender Registry Office Inspector General (OIG) Nurse Aide Registry SAM of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) Motor Vehicle Report Pre-employment Testing The following pre-employment tests will be conducted at Daybreak's expense. Tests include: A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing) A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing) Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed. If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately. Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.
