This role ensures that athletic programs are inclusive, equitable, well-managed, and aligned with the district's mission of supporting student achievement, wellness, character development, and community engagement. The Athletic Director fosters positive student-athlete experiences that emphasize academic success, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Essential Job Functions Athletic Leadership, Equity, Compliance, and Community Engagement • Serve as the primary liaison with the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA), Hood Conference, and community partners. • Ensure full compliance with OSAA, league, district, and school policies, with a commitment to fairness, transparency, and equity in eligibility and participation decisions. • Prepare, submit, and maintain accurate eligibility and participation records for all OSAA-sponsored athletics and activities. • Advise school administration on athletic policies and practices that remove barriers to participation and promote inclusive access for all students. • Coordinate and publish athletic schedules to families, staff, opponents, media, and community stakeholders using inclusive and accessible communication practices. • Celebrate, promote and share information about athletic programs, student achievements, and key milestones in clear and inclusive ways. • Participate in league, state, and professional development meetings to remain current on best practices in athletic administration, student safety, and equity. Facilities and Event Operations • Collaborate with district and school leadership to advocate for equitable access to safe, well-maintained athletic facilities and resources. • Coordinate shared use of facilities among athletics, activities, physical education, and community groups with an emphasis on fairness and transparency. • Oversee stadium operations, rentals, staffing, and supervision, ensuring events are welcoming and safe for all participants and spectators. • Support facility maintenance, safety inspections, and compliance with accessibility standards. • Ensure all athletic spaces meet safety, supervision, and risk-management expectations. Staff Supervision and Student-Athlete Support • Foster strong, respectful communication among students, families, coaches, teachers, and administrators. • Lead recruitment, screening, and recommendation of coaching candidates using equitable hiring practices that value diversity, experience, and cultural competence. • Conduct a thorough end of season evaluation with each head Conversations with coaches provide constructive feedback focused on growth, accountability, and core values of the athletic program. • Provides active mentorship for first year head coaches that include routine check-ins, program organization, review of practice plans, collaborative and organized meeting agendas, uniform inventory, and communication to families. • Support the hiring, training, and mentoring of coaches, with a focus on student safety, inclusive practices, and positive and appropriate youth development. • Establish and enforce athletic participation expectations, codes of conduct, and training rules that are consistent, restorative, and developmentally appropriate. • Oversee systems that monitor student-athlete academic progress and collaborate with teachers and counselors to support student success. • Ensure equitable access to participation regardless of socioeconomic status, background, gender identity, race, ability, or prior experience. Contest and Game Management • Coordinate officials, supervision, security, and athletic trainer for contests. • Schedule all interscholastic athletic contests in alignment with OSAA and league guidelines. • Ensure contests are conducted in environments that prioritize student safety, sportsmanship, and inclusive spectator behavior. • Oversee league and state playoff events and support supervision of home and away contests. • Make informed decisions regarding postponement or cancellation of events due to weather or safety concerns. Budget, Program, and Resource Management • Develop, manage, and monitor athletic and OSAA-sponsored activity budgets with a focus on equity, sustainability, and responsible stewardship. • Oversee purchasing, inventory, repair, and replacement of athletic equipment to ensure equitable distribution of resources across programs. • Establish, communicate, and regularly evaluate the mission, vision, and goals of the athletic program through an equity lens. Other Duties • Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree • Valid Oregon Teaching • Experience supporting secondary school athletic programs through coaching, athletic administration, or related leadership roles, with a commitment to inclusive and student-centered practices. • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Must be highly organized in order to meet deadlines, complete projects on time, and prepare for and run multiple events. • Knowledge of OSAA rules, interscholastic athletics, and secondary school programs. • Demonstrated commitment to student safety, academic success, and ethical leadership. • Must be able to commit to long hours beyond the regular work day, including weekends. • Knowledge of district policies, curriculum, education code and athletics. • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform a range of job-related tasks. Preferred Qualifications • High School head coaching experience of at least 5 years. • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Athletic Administration, or a related field. • Experience with leading or coaching in ways that promote inclusion and expand access for underserved student groups. • Experience managing athletic budgets, facilities, and large-scale events. • Bilingual or multilingual skills valued. Licenses, and/or Testing Required: Appropriate Teacher Standards and Practices Commission license or administrative license, Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance, and valid driver's license and evidence of insurability.
