Entry-level proficiency in impact studies, crash testing, automotive safety, passive safety, safety certification, and non-linear finite element analysis.
Role: Safety Performance Engineer Location: Chelsea, Michigan Interview Process: Background Check + Mandatory Meet & Greet Job Description: The Impact Safety Test Engineer will be responsible for planning, preparing, and executing impact safety-related testing. This includes full-size vehicle, component, and occupant sled tests. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of domestic and global regulatory safety requirements. Key Responsibilities: • Review impact test regulations and test requests. • Provide detailed work instructions to salaried bargaining unit (SBU) technicians, mechanics, and photographers. • Conduct impact tests according to regulations and perform post-test data validation. • Ensure all test data collection systems are correctly configured and capturing accurate data. • Coordinate with equipment suppliers and internal departments for calibrations, repairs, and updates on software/hardware best practices. • Perform onsite physical preparation and testing, including working directly with vehicles and test-related hardware/software. • Support the development and implementation of new test methods and/or equipment. • Maintain familiarity with global vehicle and component impact test regulations. • Assist in improving departmental processes as needed. • Note: This is a 1st shift position. Weekend and holiday support (7 days/week) may be required.
