About the Role We are seeking a Controller / Light CFO to join our team. This full-time, remote position offers flexibility across time zones and will play a central role in strengthening our financial infrastructure, improving forecasting and reporting, and enabling leadership to make informed, timely decisions. The ideal candidate brings both strategic finance expertise and hands-on accounting skills — someone who can bridge high-level planning with day-to-day operational execution. This is a critical hire that will help Dark Horse mature its finance function while supporting future growth. Reports to: Senior Leadership Firm size: ~150 employees | Top 200 U.S. accounting firm and growing Key Responsibilities • Own the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning process. • Establish and maintain internal controls, spend management, and vendor contract tracking. • Manage intercompany accounting with related entities and ensure timely reimbursements. • Prepare financial statements and lead the year-end review process. • Drive cash flow analysis, revenue projections, and scenario modeling. • Partner with leadership to evaluate new hires, investments, and other major decisions. • Provide coaching and guidance to finance team members. • Ensure timely payments, accurate coding, and centralized vendor management. • Lead financial system transitions (bank transitions, IES/Intuit integration, etc.). • Deliver consistent, timely reporting that empowers leadership to act with confidence. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) • Accurate and timely monthly financial statements. • Reliable revenue and expense forecasts updated on a rolling basis. • Improved intercompany accuracy across related entities. • Reduction in leadership time spent on financial problem-solving. • Documented and repeatable financial processes established. Qualifications • 7+ years in finance or accounting leadership roles (Controller, Director of Finance, CFO). • Strong background in accounting, FP&A, and internal controls. • CPA or relevant finance designation preferred. • Experience with professional services or multi-entity environments a plus. • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop finance teams. • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
