Senior People Operations Manager Reports To: Vice President of Operations Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid) Overview The Senior People Operations Manager oversees the full employee lifecycle and HR operations for a multi-state real estate management company. This role blends hands-on execution with strategic oversight—ensuring compliance, efficiency, and an exceptional employee experience. You’ll partner closely with company leadership to strengthen HR systems, optimize processes, and drive initiatives that support engagement, retention, and organizational growth. Key Responsibilities Employee Lifecycle & Compliance • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including offer letters, background checks, I-9 verification, and benefits setup. • Maintain compliance with multi-state employment laws, FMLA, and labor requirements. • Handle employee separations, final pay coordination, unemployment claims, and documentation. • Serve as the point of contact for HR inquiries, workplace issues, and policy interpretation. Payroll & Benefits • Oversee payroll accuracy for hourly and salaried employees, coordinating with TriNet and Accounting. • Ensure PTO, bonuses, commissions, and reimbursements are processed correctly and on schedule. • Manage benefits administration, including open enrollment, new hire enrollments, and leave programs. • Partner with TriNet, Unum, and brokers to resolve benefits and payroll concerns. Performance, Training & Development • Coordinate annual review cycles and goal-setting processes. • Maintain and update review forms, training requirements, and compliance certifications (e.g., sexual harassment, fair housing). • Support supervisors with employee coaching, documentation, and performance management. • Develop and update SOPs and Helpdesk materials to ensure consistent processes and knowledge sharing. Employee Engagement & Culture • Lead employee recognition and communication initiatives—anniversaries, milestones, holiday programs, and company announcements. • Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability. • Support conflict resolution, mediate team concerns, and ensure alignment with company values. Operational Systems & Process Management • Administer employee access to key company systems (TriNet, AppFolio, M365, RingCentral, Zendesk, etc.). • Collaborate with IT and Operations to maintain accurate access, permissions, and directories. • Oversee HR data integrity, reporting, and compliance documentation. • Partner with leadership to streamline property onboarding, improve workflows, and support special projects. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field; HR certification preferred. • 5+ years of HR or People Operations experience, including multi-state compliance. • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (TriNet strongly preferred). • Deep understanding of HR best practices, FMLA, ADA, and wage/hour laws. • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities. • Proven ability to manage both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic projects.
