Senior Data Engineer/Architect If you are a Senior Data Engineer/Architect with real estate related tech experience, please read on! • $190k - $220 / Base • 30% annual bonus 1st year | 2nd year plan is to receive LTI • 100% paid health benefits + 401k match • July 4th & Thanksgiving entire week off + unlimited PTO • Full-time/Permanent • Remote in CST or EST time zone We are a leading owner, investor, and developer of affordable and middle-income housing. As the fastest growing and one of the largest owners of affordable housing in the U.S., we believe housing is a pathway to prosperity. We deliver high-quality, sustainable homes that foster community and offer our 75,000+ residents the opportunity to build brighter futures. We believe that technology can finally bring affordable housing into the 21st century - transforming an industry that's been stagnant for decades. We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer / Architect who can design, build, and deploy our data platform using a combination of vendor solutions, cloud offerings, and internally developed tools and pipelines. You will create the central data platform that turns real estate, operational, and investment data into actions that lift NOI, tighten underwriting, and improve compliance outcomes for our business. You'll be the first dedicated data architect/engineer. As we scale, there is an opportunity to hire and manage a team. What You Will Own • Architecture & strategy: Lead the technical discovery to determine our optimal data approach - combining existing vertical SaaS platforms and building custom solutions. You are the architect who decides what to buy, what to build, and how to integrate while ensuring we always control our data stack and portability. • Definitions that drive NOI: Create the accounting & metrics dictionary and alert registry. Your definitions are the system of decision across all properties and vendors. • Vendor integration design & oversight: If we use SaaS and/or 3rd party vendors, hold them to SLAs, tie-outs, egress, and specs. Ensure customizations align with our specs and models. • Hands-on engineering: Stand up data lakes/warehouse, relational schemas, pipelines, and tests when necessary to support our custom data needs; create initial Power BI (or similar tool) datasets & exec pages. You will set the standard and shape the team as we grow. What we're looking for • 6-10+ years building production-grade data platforms; can both architect and code. Mastery of SQL and one of: dbt, Data form, or equivalent transformation-as-code; strong data testing habits. • Hands-on with Power BI (datasets, DAX measures, RLS) or equivalent enterprise BI. • Built on at least one of: Microsoft Fabric/OneLake + Azure SQL/Dataverse • Track record of pragmatic build vs. buy decisions; comfortable running vendor evaluations and writing non-negotiables (egress, SLAs). • Security and compliance best practices: such as Identity and Access Management, Data (at rest and in transit) encryption, data masking & PII minimization, data backup and retention, audibility and traceability Nice-to-haves • PropTech, property management systems (Yardi/RealPage), or multifamily/LIHTC exposure. • Experience reconciling to financial systems (trial balance tie-outs, COA mapping). • AI-first mindset: leverage AI tools to speed up modeling, tests, and docs; curiosity to apply LLMs to data extraction workflows • Python for small services/ingest jobs; Fast API/Node for simple APIs and webhooks. • Power Apps/Retool experience for internal forms. • Prior "founding data" or "single-threaded owner" experience. Target Stack Philosophy We've invested in Microsoft (Power BI, SharePoint, Office) to anchor enterprise-grade systems that scale with compliance and security needs. But we're pragmatic: you'll evaluate where Microsoft is enough and where we extend with Postgres/S3 or other tools. Benefits • $190k - $220+ Base • 30% annual bonus • Remote in CST or EST time zone • 100% paid health benefits + 401k match • July 4th & Thanksgiving entire week off + unlimited PTO • Opportunity for professional growth • Great company culture and work-life balance! • Much more! - For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
