Job Description Information about the Role, Line of Business and Team: The A&H Legal Department is responsible for the various legal functions of Crum & Forster’s Accident & Health division, including contract strategy, development, negotiation and tracking, litigation management, and any other miscellaneous legal support to the various disciplines. This position supports A&H Business Units for reinsurance segments as assigned by VP, Program Reinsurance Contracting (“VP”) by developing reinsurance contract templates, drafting case contracts, negotiating with external parties, and implementation. It interacts directly with the legal team and Business Unit underwriters, holding authority in contract development and review for assigned reinsurance segments. Additionally, this position assists the VP, Legal Operations Manager, and IT and Strategy & Innovation teams in reviewing current contract specifications in the contract system and underwriting workflow to enhance functionality, promoting the ability to complete more contracts with the same resources, achieving "scale". This position will also collaborate with the VP and A&H division teams on special projects related to program underwriting, contracting and implementation in developing optimization tools for assigned reinsurance segments. What you will do: For each reinsurance segment as assigned by VP, manage various aspects of contracting through use of legal team’s systems and templates, integration with underwriting and accounting and contract review negotiations with external parties, as follows: Accept reinsurance contract requests from underwriters and work with the underwriters or VP to review for accuracy of reinsurance contract request specifications. Independently draft and review external reinsurance treaties and provide input on related program agreements, based on pre-defined templates, protocols, underwriting input and industry knowledge. Negotiate, in collaboration with underwriting, the reinsurance contract language supporting business terms with internal/external partners, and coordinate discussions with related parties to drive the contract delivery process, bringing in VP when necessary. Advise and respond to contract questions or issues by coordinating with Legal support staff and Underwriters during divisional contract pipeline approval and signature workflows. Manage queue of open reinsurance contracts; advise and coordinate follow-up and system status update tasks with Legal and Business Unit team members to drive contracting lifecycle timelines and create meaningful prioritization, tracking and status reporting data. Review supplemental MS Excel reporting, contract system reporting and metric dashboards to: 1.) assist in the evaluation of the contract management process; 2.) identify and address inconsistencies and/or errors of data; and 3.) identify trends or report risk details to the A&H organization. Work with the VP to develop updated training/user manuals to ensure users of contract systems follow consistent protocols and specification; assist in training and communications on integration strategies with Business Units and Shared Services. Work with the members of Legal and Regulatory teams and auditors as necessary to ensure consistent application of regulatory and accounting protocols to properly negotiate, associate and align related program contracts and system Program Summaries by identifying parent – child contract relationships by pre-defined contract types and sub-types. Partner with Legal team and the A&H Strategy & Innovation team to develop rules-based dynamic protocols, to apply on bulk basis without the need to update each contract individually to promote scaling of contracting. Partner with the Legal team, Business Units and the A&H Strategy and Innovation team on enhancements to quote and contract structure, templates and tools for integration of program contracting with underwriting and finance systems to promote risk mitigation, speed in implementation, renewal persistency and scale across the A&H Division. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree - insurance or reinsurance designation (e.g. CPCU, ARe, ARA) a plus. 8+ years in the reinsurance field and/or the program insurance industry with duties involving Reinsurance transactions or contracts. Demonstrated industry knowledge and contacts in at least one reinsurance contract segment such as Assumed Fronting, International, Managed Care, Captive or Program contracting. Demonstrated understanding of multi-party contractual agreement types and uses. Demonstrated understanding of reinsurance terminology impacting profit & loss management. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $82,500.00 to a maximum of $155,100.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range.
