Full Description

Senior Tax Manager – Partnership (1065) and S-Corporation (1120S) returns Remote-first | $140,000–$160,000 base + bonus Remote, Hybrid or in Office near Naperville, IL, (USA) Some tax roles are about grinding out returns. This one is about stepping into trusted client relationships, owning complex entity work, and doing tax thoughtfully — without chaos, heroics, or constant fire drills. Several senior tax professionals recently retired, and instead of scrambling or overloading the remaining team, the firm slowed down and intentionally created space for the right senior tax professional to step in and carry this work forward with care. If you genuinely love tax, enjoy working closely with clients, and value calm competence over constant urgency, this role will feel different — in a good way. About the Firm This is a growing, 25-person firm combining tax, planning, and advisory services, with unusually long tenure. People stay because the culture is modern, ethical, low-ego, and genuinely collaborative. Tax is central here — not an afterthought. Tax professionals collaborate closely with advisory colleagues year-round to help business owners and high-net-worth families make better decisions. Leadership invests in technology, mentorship, and doing the work the right way. Clients are loyal. Demand is strong. No one is asking you to chase business or manufacture urgency. They’re building for the next 30 years — not the next quarter. About the Role This is a true succession seat, not a rebuild and not a scramble. The right senior tax professional will step into a mature, respected book of work with room to grow. The role is entity-heavy, focused on partnership (1065) and S-corporation (1120S) work, paired with client advisory, planning, and steady leadership. The environment is remote-first, video-on, and highly collaborative. There are occasional in-person client meetings, but flexibility is real and respected. What You’ll Be Doing • Owning and guiding Partnership (1065) and S-Corporation (1120S) returns • Leading client tax planning, projections, and advisory conversations • Serving as a trusted, steady presence for long-standing client relationships • Partnering closely with both the tax team and advisory colleagues • Mentoring and coaching staff as they grow • Providing leadership through influence (no direct reports on day one) Who Thrives Here The right senior tax professional is someone who: • Has strong entity tax experience and sound technical judgment • Enjoys client interaction and can explain complex tax matters clearly • Communicates early, shows up on time, and dislikes surprises • Coaches others without ego • Is looking for a long-term home, not another short stop This role rewards consistency, curiosity, and professionalism — not volume or bravado. Practical Details (Because Transparency Matters) • Title: Senior Tax Manager (Individual Contributor) • Compensation: $140,000–$160,000 base + bonus • Location: Remote-first; hybrid or in-office optional • Tools: UltraTax, SurePrep, TaxCaddy, Karbon, CoCounsel, QuickBooks (Any solid tax software background translates well) • Travel: Occasional in-person client meetings • Start Date: December or January preferred Benefits note: Health insurance premiums are age-banded under the firm’s plan, which is common among smaller organizations. Individual costs vary by age, and details are reviewed transparently with finalists. This role won’t excite everyone. But for the right senior tax professional. Someone who values stability, client trust, technical excellence, and a genuinely humane culture — it can be a career-defining move. If that sounds like you, let’s talk.
