Provide mentoring and strategic guidance to a grants writer to strengthen messaging and impact statements for future funding proposals over a 6-8 week volunteer engagement.
Experience in grant writing, strong communication and mentoring skills, ability to collaborate on messaging strategy, and commitment to supporting nonprofit funding efforts.
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. We’re looking for a thoughtful and experienced grants professional to support our grants writer with the foundational messaging needed to apply for future funding. The volunteer will meet with the Grants Writer over a defined period to provide guidance and reflective feedback on: • Refining and strengthening Creshendo’s core value proposition • Crafting bold, clear, and compelling impact statements • Identifying strategic messaging that aligns with different types of funders • Reviewing or co-develop language we can use across multiple proposals • Mentoring and support our writer as she builds confidence and skills This is not a high-volume writing role. It’s a collaborative, coaching-style project focused on equipping our team with the tools and language needed to pursue funding effectively and authentically. The project will take place over 6–8 weeks, with a few scheduled conversations and check-ins. Creshendo is a global nonprofit co-creating educational, economic, and storytelling programs with migrants and displaced communities. As a volunteer-led organization, our ability to secure sustainable funding will determine how far we can take this work. You’ll be helping us build that foundation — not just by writing content, but by strengthening our internal team’s ability to speak clearly about our impact. Your support will shape how funders see us, how partners understand us, and how we grow. You’ll be working closely with our grants writer and supported by Creshendo’s Executive Director. We’ve already collected data, impact stories, and program materials that you can draw from. You’ll have access to past and upcoming grant drafts, and we’ll align with you early on about goals, timelines, and communication preferences. In the end we'd like to have a short mentoring plan co-created with the Grants Writer, along with documented guidance, messaging tools, or reflection prompts they can continue to use beyond the engagement. We value clarity, consistency, and responsiveness — and we’re committed to using your time well. If you’re a strong communicator who enjoys mentoring others and shaping strategy, this will be a good fit. Creshendo Mission: Creshendo’s mission is to empower displaced populations by fostering their integration and self-reliance. Through specialized programs and support services, we equip them with the tools, knowledge, and resources to navigate new environments, advocate for their needs, and achieve their aspirations.
