The Indirect Tax Consultant is responsible for preparing and filing indirect taxes, including sales & use tax, property taxes, and business licenses. They also examine and analyze financial records to prepare reports and filings while ensuring compliance with tax legislation.
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and 4+ years of indirect tax experience are required. Strong data analysis skills and advanced Excel skills are essential, along with excellent communication and attention to detail.
The Indirect Tax Consultant is responsible for preparing and filing indirect taxes, including sales & use tax, property taxes, and business licenses. Examines, analyzes, and interprets accounting and financial records to prepare reports and filings. Provides recommendations on new filings. Determines and calculates tax implications and develops strategies for minimizing liability. Stays current on federal, state, and local tax legislation to ensure compliance. Essential Functions: File multi-state sales tax returns Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts Prepare and file property tax returns Maintain compliance with local business license requirements Research taxability of products and services Monitor changes in the sales tax laws and assess impact on the company Assist with sales and use, property and other local tax audits Manage state, county, and city tax registrations and renewals Assist with corporate income tax provision and returns information requests Assist with corporate income tax audits Support ad hoc tax and finance projects Maintain organized records of tax filings, correspondence, and supporting schedules Skills: Sales Tax Compliance | Sales Tax Software | Sales Tax Returns Preparation and Filing | Sales Tax Research | Exemption Certificate Management | Sales Tax Audit Support | Indirect Taxes Compliance Minimum Requirements: Education/Experience/Certification Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field 4+ years of indirect tax experience, including multi-state filings Working knowledge of sales tax laws and regulations Strong data analysis skills Advanced Excel skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Excellent communication skills and attention to detail A team-player mindset with a customer-service orientation Preferred Qualifications: Experience working at SaaS / Software company Exposure to any sales tax software Exposure to any business license management software Experience with sales tax software implementation Working Environment/Physical Demands Working Environment: General office environment: Works generally at a desk in a well-lighted, air-conditioned cubicle/office, with moderate noise levels. Periods of stress may occur. Physical Demands: Activities require a significant amount of sitting at office and work desks and in front of a computer monitor. Some walking and standing relative to interaction with other personnel.
