Full Description

Assistant Director of Athletics Communications job at CoSIDA. Westminster, MD. Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Director of Athletics Communications, the Assistant Director has the primary responsibility for the promotion and publicity of McDaniel's 24 intercollegiate athletics teams, coaches, and staff.This role will develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy for the department in close consultation with the Director of Athletics Communications, Director of Athletics, and College's Social Media Marketing Manager. The Assistant Director must be skilled in graphic arts, website design and maintenance, video production and editing, and proficient providing statistics for various sports. The candidate will serve as the primary contact for numerous teams. The hourly rate for this full-time, 12-month position is $20.43. There is also the possibility for overtime. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Planning, organizing and conducting all sports information and communications activity for varsity athletics contests as assigned. Serve as primary contact for assigned sports. • Taking a lead role in the management of the athletics department social media accounts, creating and publishing unique and engaging content regularly across all platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube). • Assisting in the management of athletics website to assure updated information appears in a timely fashion including. • Creating compelling visual storytelling to engage current and future student-athletes. • Identifying, researching, and writing nominations for qualified student-athletes for various honors, awards, and post-season recognition. • Assuring all athletics publications are properly edited and published on an appropriate timetable. • Adhering to all brand and editorial standards established by the Office of Communications and Marketing and Athletics Communications Office. • Managing and overseeing game-day and student workers as needed. • Attending all CoSida, NCAA, Centennial Conference, and departmental meetings, as warranted. Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred in journalism, communications, English, or related discipline highly desired. • Relatable experience in athletics communications in higher education. • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and be highly adaptable to rapidly changing priorities. • Ability to maintain composure, effectiveness, and focus when facing difficult challenges, demonstrating sound judgment and discretion in a potentially stressful environment. • Strong interpersonal skills required, including effective in-person communication skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite. • Previous knowledge of statistical rules for volleyball and lacrosse strongly preferred. • Knowledge of Stat Crew, PrestoStats and NCAA Live Stats strongly preferred. • Experience with PrestoSports and/or SIDEARM web content editor preferred. • Experience in video editing software, specifically Adobe Premiere Pro, strongly preferred. • A self-motivated worker, able to work well independently, energetically, creatively, and under strict deadlines. • Ability and interest in sports and a willingness to effectively work with other college departments. • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the media, employees, coaching staff, student-athletes, vendors, alumni, and public. • Ability to travel, work effectively and efficiently in a flexible work week schedule (including evenings and weekends), and work overtime in busy periods during the academic year. • Must possess a valid driver's license with two or less points.
