JOB SUMMARY: The Sr. Database Engineer/DBA is a critical member of the Data & Analytics team responsible for the design, optimization, and governance of Virtix’s data infrastructure. This role owns database schema, ETL, and modeling best practices across Microsoft Fabric and Azure environments. The Database Engineer/DBA ensures the stability and scalability of all database and reporting pipelines, creates and maintains enterprise data models (ERDs, star schema, snowflake), and provides the “gold-layer” datasets used by Power BI developers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SQL performance tuning, data modeling, ETL orchestration, and healthcare data compliance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Note: The essential duties and responsibilities below are intended to describe the general duties and responsibilities of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the Team Member’s performance objectives as outlined by the Team Member’s immediate Leadership Team Member. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as the primary owner of all database objects including tables, views, and stored procedures. Design and optimize datasets for Power BI reporting, ensuring consistency and eliminating duplication. Create and maintain Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), application diagrams, and conceptual/logical/physical data models. Build scalable models using star schema and snowflake designs to support analytics and reporting. Manage ETL pipelines and data orchestration through Azure Data Factory, ensuring jobs are auditable and reliable. Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to define logic and validate KPIs. Implement database governance and enforce standards for naming conventions, indexing, and version control. Oversee database performance tuning and query optimization for large-scale healthcare data. Document schemas, transformations, and data definitions in a living data dictionary. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and HITRUST. Align conduct with the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and support the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Program. Comply with all internal policies and procedures. Actively participate in Company-provided training and education. Ensure individual compliance with all privacy and security rules and regulations and commit to the protection of all Company confidential information, including but not limited to, Personal Health Information (PHI). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5 years of experience as a DBA or Data Engineer. Expertise in Microsoft Fabric lakehouse architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers). Strong SQL/T-SQL skills with a focus on optimization, indexing, and partitioning. Proficiency in Azure SQL, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory. Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO) for CI/CD pipelines and release management. Proficiency in Python for data validation and pipeline automation. Proven experience designing and maintaining ERDs, application diagrams, and data models. Strong understanding of star schema design pattern. Experience working with healthcare data (claims, coding, payer/provider reporting). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with healthcare coding and reimbursement standards (ICD-10, CPT). Knowledge of healthcare compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST). Background in enterprise reporting environments such as Power BI Embedded and role-level security (RLS). TRAVEL: None or minimal. Regular eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is required to operate office equipment. The ability to perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day and function in an environment with constant interruptions is required. Team Member may experience elevated levels of stress during periods of increased activity and with work entailing multiple deadlines.
