Service Manager - Heavy Equipment Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic Service Manager to oversee our heavy equipment service operations. Responsibilities: • Lead and motivate the service and shop team to deliver top-tier customer service while maintaining a safety-first culture. • Oversee technicians working both in the shop and at customer locations, ensuring repairs and inspections meet safety, reliability, and quality standards. • Collaborate with senior leadership to set departmental goals, develop operational strategies, and support long-range planning. • Plan and coordinate service work with Service Administration to optimize schedules, manage workload demand, and meet production deadlines. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and support scalability and growth. • Manage departmental budgets, control expenses, and maximize profitability. • Support personnel development through hiring, training, coaching, and employee engagement activities. • Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues on refuse and heavy equipment, leading corrective actions. • Ensure compliance with safety policies, enforce safety procedures, and promote a strong safety culture across all operations. • Maintain accurate documentation, develop departmental procedures, and foster cross-team collaboration to standardize service operations. Requirements: • Minimum of 5+ years of leadership experience in a supervisory or lead role within a maintenance or service environment, preferably in the refuse or heavy equipment industry (CMRP certification preferred). • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing maintenance teams focused on safety, quality, and operational results. • Extensive hands-on experience as a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic working with refuse or heavy equipment. • Strong technical skills, including the ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics, and a thorough understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, PTO installation, hydraulic systems, and structural welding. • Advanced diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues. • Demonstrated success in leading change and process improvements through continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma certification preferred). • Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, or Supply Chain; MBA is a plus. • Must provide own hand tools and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
