Lead café staff to maintain hospitality, quality, efficiency, and cleanliness during shifts while ensuring operational standards and service goals are met.
At least 1 year of specialty coffee experience, strong leadership, effective communication, ability to follow recipes and SOPs, scheduling flexibility, and a valid food handler's card.
Position Summary The Shift Lead works closely with the General Manager to ensure café operations run properly, recipes are followed, and service standards are met. A person in this role is a champion of teamwork and morale who leads café staff to maintain hospitality, quality, efficiency, and a clean and organized cafe during each shift. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and practices • Display leadership, professionalism, and teamwork at all times; work to fulfill Copa Vida’s core purpose, competency, and values (our Three Cs), and contribute to maintaining positive morale throughout the café • Maintain Copa Vida’s standard of hospitality and ensure established steps of service are followed during all interactions • Administer breaks in compliance with Company policies • Ensure the success of café operations during shifts • Work all bar stations, including espresso machine, register, and barback positions, etc. • Maintain a brisk pace of work to meet service demands and café goals • Meet established quality and presentation standards, and ticket times • Follow recipes, methods of preparation, and standard operating procedures • Promptly alert manager of needs and instances of low supply • Receive, verify, and stock deliveries • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties thoroughly, accurately, and on time • Follow cleaning schedules and maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout service • Assist with running and bussing as needed • Assist with training staff as directed • Be in-uniform and ready to work at the scheduled start of every shift • Attend mandatory company meetings, trainings, and events • In conjunction with the General Manager, assist with a variety of projects as they arise • Maintain flexible availability to meet dynamic scheduling needs REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS • At least 1 year of specialty coffee experience required • A passion for hospitality • Ability to taste and discern flavors to meet recipe/dial-in requirements • Strong leadership skills • Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team player • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment • Ability to remain composed, resilient, and effective at all times • Ability to remain flexible to evolving demands and adaptive to change • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines with quality results • Ability to follow recipes and standard operating procedures • Responsiveness to feedback from leadership • Ability to maintain scheduling flexibility to meet the operational needs of the cafe • Possess a current food handlers card valid for work location PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to: • Regularly taste and evaluate coffee and tea • Talk, hear, and stand for extended periods of time • Employ close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus • Read food order tickets • Reach, bend, stoop, kneel, shake, stir • Use sharp kitchen utensils and equipment • Climb and/or balance • Carry, push, and lift objects up to 50lb • Employ repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a fast-paced café/kitchen environment. This role routinely uses a variety of coffee and tea brewing equipment, grinders, sinks, and dishwashers, and cooking equipment, as well as tools to calibrate and clean them. Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot liquids, potentially slippery floors, and cleaning chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. TRAVEL Occasional travel may be required for off-site meetings, training, and events.
