About the Role: The Control Plane for Kafka (CPK) team, also known as the Kora Control Plane team, is responsible for the full lifecycle management of Kafka clusters managed by Confluent. This includes developing and maintaining all services and tools necessary for provisioning, operating, and updating these clusters. The team's components coordinate various downstream dependencies to create, configure, and activate new Kafka clusters, as well as to update and manage existing clusters as new Kafka features are delivered to customers. As a senior software engineer in the team, you will be responsible for the development of new features that expand these systems and improve their capabilities. You will support them in production to ensure they meet our availability and performance goals, observing all functional and non-functional requirements of these systems. You will work with your peers and other engineers to brainstorm ideas to continuously innovate in this space and bring the best resource management experience possible to our customers. What You Will Do: Independently drive the design and execution of complex projects end to end Contribute to the advancement of the Kafka control plane systems and services Work with customers to understand their requirement and making them successful Represents the team in cross-functional design/architecture meetings Provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers Collaborate with other engineers and make decision which benefits Apache Kafka and Confluent What You Will Bring: BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience 2+ years of relevant experience in distributed systems, query and stream processing Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development Experience building and operating highly scalable and performant systems Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc) A self starter with the ability to work effectively in teams Proficiency in Java, Scala or other statically typed languages What Gives You an Edge: A strong background in distributed storage systems or databases Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure or GCP) Ready to build what's next?
