Senior Director of Logistics Position Summary Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Director of Logistics to serve as an executive leader overseeing all domestic and international transportation activities across a national distribution network. This role is responsible for optimizing private fleet operations, strengthening logistics governance, and improving overall network performance. Partnering closely with senior leaders across operations, purchasing, and finance, this position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable freight flow, supply continuity, and cost efficiency across inbound and outbound channels. The Senior Director of Logistics will design and execute an integrated logistics strategy that enhances service performance, cost competitiveness, and operational control as the organization continues to scale and consolidate its supply chain. About the Opportunity Our client is a large, growth-oriented, product-driven organization with a national distribution footprint and significant annual revenue. The company operates a hub-and-spoke distribution model designed to balance service excellence with cost efficiency. As logistics and transportation capabilities continue to be brought in-house, this role will be instrumental in driving reliability, agility, and customer satisfaction across the supply chain. Key Responsibilities Strategic Logistics Leadership • Partner with senior leadership to align logistics operations with sourcing, inventory, and commercial strategies. • Lead the design and execution of a national logistics strategy covering imports, domestic freight, private fleet operations, and branch distribution. • Ensure logistics initiatives directly support enterprise-level objectives related to growth, cost management, and service performance. • Champion the insourcing of freight management and increased operational control. • Establish a national transportation governance framework, including KPIs, financial visibility, and accountability standards. • Provide executive leadership with data-driven insights to support operational and capital investment decisions. Transportation & Fleet Management • Direct all transportation modes, including ocean imports, drayage, LTL, truckload, parcel, and private fleet operations. • Optimize fleet utilization, routing efficiency, mode selection, last-mile delivery performance, and driver productivity. • Leverage telematics, routing, and safety technologies to enhance performance and compliance. • Lead the selection and implementation of a Transportation Management System (TMS) to improve visibility, cost control, and execution. • Oversee carrier strategy, contract negotiations, routing guides, and performance management. • Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, and safety regulations while promoting a strong safety culture. Domestic & International Freight Operations • Collaborate with purchasing, sales, and product teams to develop a best-in-class inbound freight strategy. • Manage international container flow, port operations, drayage, and cross-dock execution. • Oversee domestic freight movements between ports, distribution hubs, and branch locations. • Drive continuous improvement in lead times, freight cost structures, and vendor compliance. Network & Distribution Optimization • Partner with distribution center and branch leadership to balance service levels, cost, and inventory placement. • Evaluate and redesign network flows to support market expansion, acquisitions, and evolving customer delivery expectations. • Improve last-mile delivery and customer experience through tighter integration between transportation and warehouse operations. Systems & Process Optimization • Oversee the integration and optimization of ERP, TMS, and telematics platforms to enable end-to-end visibility. • Develop dashboards and analytics to track freight spend, fleet productivity, and logistics KPIs. • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance scalability, efficiency, and execution discipline. Leadership & Talent Development • Build and lead a national logistics organization spanning transportation, fleet operations, and logistics planning. • Foster a culture of accountability, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement. • Support workforce planning, talent development, and organizational alignment during periods of growth and change. Required Qualifications Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred. • 10+ years of progressive logistics leadership experience within a multi-site distribution, manufacturing, or product-based environment. • Proven success managing international imports, domestic transportation, and private fleet operations. • Demonstrated experience leading logistics transformation initiatives during periods of growth or M&A integration. • Strong financial acumen, including freight budgeting, cost modeling, and network optimization.
