The successful candidate will serve a five-year administrative term, with the possibility of renewal, and will be expected to provide leadership in teaching, scholarship, and administration. This role involves being the chief academic, administrative, and financial officer of the department, with responsibilities that include course assignments, instructional workload, scheduling, and overseeing the faculty and staff. The Chair will also be involved in strategic planning, budgeting, and serving as a liaison to various academic and community entities. A strong commitment to academic excellence and the ability to support an open and inclusive environment are essential. Candidates for the Chair position must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, a proven track record of research excellence, and the capacity to lead in scholarship, teaching, administration, and institution-building.
