Perform and oversee hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis testing, quality control, training, and troubleshooting in a clinical laboratory setting.
Associate or bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, ASCP certification or equivalent, minimum 1 year hematology/coagulation experience, leadership and communication skills.
Located at Miami Valley Hospital South's Hematology Department (Centerville, OH) Full-Time Day Shift: Standard 8-hour shifts (7:30 AM - 3:30 PM) or 10-hour shifts (5:00 AM - 3:30 PM) With Weekend and Holiday Rotation Position Summary: Perform and report laboratory tests within established guidelines, and under direction of the Hematology Technical Director and the senior manager, oversee Hematology/Coagulation/Urinalysis training, special projects, QC review, proficiency testing, direct observation of competency, resolution of instrument or specimen problems, and ensure adherence to technical procedures and regulations. Responsibilities: Perform routine technical work as assigned by the Senior Manager or Technical Director. Perform and record routine maintenance and quality control on all equipment or reagents used for testing. Provide guidance for department members for any questions or problems that arise with Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation testing. Follow any problems through to completion and communicate with appropriate managers and next shift if appropriate. Coordinate Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation training for new department members, and when new instruments or procedures are introduced. Complete competency assessment as needed (6 month and/or annual) and provide additional training if the need is identified. Oversee Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation proficiency testing through CAP or other agencies. Submit QC for peer statistics, review QC and maintenance records and review issues and concerns with Technical directors and senior manager. Serve as the liaison between the department and the Senior Manager and Hematology Technical Director as appropriate. Assist with the introduction of new analyzers and troubleshooting of current Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation analyzers. If appropriate, serve as the key operator and attend manufacturer training for new Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation analyzers. Perform any specialized studies, reagent coordination, instrument calibration, or any other duties assigned by the Hematology Technical Director. Address client questions and problems in a courteous and efficient manner. Contribute to the overall effectiveness of CompuNet Clinical Laboratories by performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Associates or bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Medical Laboratory Science (MLT/MT) ASCP certification or comparable required. A minimum of 1 year of Hematology and/or Coagulation testing experience. Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Good communication skills and ability to work with people. Sound reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Safety & Physical Demands: Visual acuity and manual dexterity for extended computer use. Ability to sit or stand at workstations for prolonged periods. Strong focus and ability to concentrate without distraction. Comprehension of verbal and written instructions. High integrity and accuracy in test performance and reporting. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Exposure to biohazardous materials and hazardous chemicals. Adherence to all safety, ergonomic, and health policies. Compliance with PPE requirements in laboratory and biohazard areas. Timely completion of required safety training and health evaluations. Proactive in identifying and addressing safety hazards; promotes safety awareness.
