Purpose of the Position: Join our DES IT Infrastructure Team as an End User Computing Systems Administrator! In this position, you will support enterprise-level End User Computing (EUC) solutions that enhance productivity, security, and user experience. This role places a strong emphasis on control of all platforms used in endpoint management, Active Directory administration, standard device imaging, and vulnerability remediation, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise systems and compliance with IT standards. The position also serves on the DES IT Infrastructure Architecture Review Board to guide technology decisions and ensure smooth integration with on-premises infrastructure. This position will be part of a team that will also drive the evolution of the EUC service as a whole. Key responsibilities include: • Configure and manage EUC platforms including Windows and virtual desktops (Amazon Web Services (AWS) Workspaces) and endpoint management tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Configuration Manager (MECM), Tanium). • Administer, influence, and maintain Active Directory (AD), including user and group management, Organizational Unit (OU) structure, Group Policy Object (GPO) creation, and AD-integrated applications. • Tune and maintain Group Policies to manage desktop configurations, security settings, and software deployment. • Create, maintain, and update standard device images for desktops and laptops to ensure consistency, security, and compliance. • Collaborate with security teams to identify, assess, and remediate vulnerabilities across end-user devices using tools such as Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, BitLocker, or other antivirus platforms. • Manage processes using endpoint management tools for device provisioning, patching, and ensuring security compliance. • Provide Tier 3 support for escalated end-user issues and troubleshoot complex technical problems related to authentication, access, and device performance. • Create and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks and streamline operations. • Monitor system performance and usage metrics to optimize EUC infrastructure and directory services. • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential value to the organization. Make recommendations for improvements to enhance user experience and security posture. • Document system configurations, procedures, Windows Operating System (OS) policies, and support guides related to AD, EUC environments, and vulnerability management. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, alternating between one full week onsite and one full week working remotely, subject to management approval. Management will have final approval of the selected schedule and may require the employee to report onsite more than the standard schedule depending on the nature of assigned work, general workload, demand of the unit, and agency policy changes. A hybrid work schedule is allowed per the department’s Telework Policy, which is subject to change and can be revoked at the discretion of management. The work location is in Raleigh, N.C. Occasional overtime, including weekends and holidays, may be required. After-hours on-call support is a requirement for this position. Division Responsibility: The Division of Employment Security is responsible for the administration of the unemployment insurance program in the state of North Carolina. This program is a federal-state partnership, funded by federal and state unemployment taxes, which employers pay on the wages of their employees. Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The IT Infrastructure and Operations Section of the Division of Employment Security (DES) is responsible for providing comprehensive system support for a diverse range of IT components, including public-facing web servers, mainframe applications, databases, networking, and end-user computing systems. These systems support the Unemployment Benefit Program and Unemployment Tax Administration Program. The team also includes a dedicated service desk to assist our organization.
