Full Description

Due to expanding enrollment, the School of Professional Studies’ M.S. in Information & Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) program is seeking additional adjunct lecturers to teach our course Digital Workplace & Digital Transformation (online synchronous or in-person) starting in the spring 2026 term. Scholar-practitioners with relevant academic and industry experience are invited to apply. The course is taught synchronously online (via Zoom) or in-person. It is a required course in the IKNS curriculum and is meant to provide future organizational leaders with a foundational understanding of digital transformation and the technologies and organizational challenges shaping the modern workplace. Serving as an adjunct lecturer provides a unique opportunity to educate and mentor students aspiring to a career in information science as well as to form a rewarding professional relationship with Columbia University’s world-class faculty. Candidates should have a demonstrated understanding of academic and applied trends that are driving best practice in the field. Responsibilities • Attend all online or in-person class sessions (class generally meets one evening per week for up to 2 hours), conduct the lectures, and lead classroom administration. • Prepare course materials, including the oversight of the course Canvas webpage (learning management system), weekly presentations, curation of class readings, etc. • Monitor student concerns and inquiries; conduct office hours. • Evaluate and grade student assignments (teaching assistants will be provided). Minimum Degree Required • Master’s degree in a field broadly related to the IKNS curriculum. • Doctoral degree preferred. Schedule • The class sections will meet online or in-person once a week (110 minutes) in the late afternoon or early evening, from mid-January to late April. The weekday and exact time when the class will meet has yet to be decided and will be based on student needs and instructor availability. Required • Previous experience in teaching semester long courses at the graduate level. • Extensive knowledge of best-practice frameworks to design and manage digital transformation projects and related KPIs, including budgeting, deployment, and change management. • Extensive knowledge of digital workplace-related issues in modern organizations (hybrid work environments, online collaboration tools, agentic AI, etc.). • First-hand experience of having led organizations through the above experiences. Preferred Skills/Experience: • First-hand experience includes digital workplace and digital transformations both pre and post genAI. • Proven scholarly work and/or public thought leadership in the above areas.
