Description The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring an Assistant General Counsel - Real Estate, Transactions, & Strategic Business Processes (AGC) to join our System Office's Legal team. This role will assist our colleges, which have over 35 campuses (and growing!) in the state of Colorado, with their real estate transactions. We are looking for an attorney who is well-versed in the world of real estate and who can communicate professionally with stakeholders at all levels. Examples of Duties As the AGC, you will provide support and expertise to CCCS with real estate projects, including acquisition and disposition of land and buildings and leasing of program space. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing and approving complex business contracts for the System. Duties include: • Draft, negotiate, and finalize documents to acquire or dispose of land and buildings. • Review and approve all due diligence for real estate transactions. • Review and approve all closing documents. • Draft, negotiate and approve State leases and easements. • Advise and assist in arranging financing of Capital Construction Projects, including bond and tax-exempt financing, public offerings, and private placements. • Annually renew the Lowry Campus leases. • Provide support to the colleges and System Office in evaluating, negotiating, and executing complex business transactions as identified by the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration or by the General Counsel. • Review State of Colorado contracts in accordance with State Controller fiscal rules. • Advise on contracts with issues of data privacy and intellectual property. • Advise on other contracts, in areas such as information technology software. Required Qualifications • A juris doctorate degree; Colorado Bar certified, or an ability to waive into the State. • Five years of professional experience in purchasing and selling real estate, contract writing, contract negotiating, contract management, or legal writing. Supplemental Information Attributes that will contribute to success in this position: • Prior experience with State of Colorado contracts, or similar governmental entity contracts and real estate acquisitions is preferred. • Prior experience working in a Higher Education setting is preferred. • Prior experience with public financing is preferred. • Skilled in problem-solving, training, and explaining difficult real estate and contract concepts to internal and external stakeholders. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and negotiate sensitive situations. • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, including informational communication and writing complex contracts. • Ability to work productively in a team environment and successfully individually. • Attention to detail and organized. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strict deadlines. Work Location/Travel Expectations: • This position is located at CCCS System Office: 9101 E. Lowry Blvd., Denver, CO 80230. • The position requires infrequent local travel to Colleges. • Alternative work arrangements, including flexible schedules and remote work may be available.
