Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. ClimbHigh.AI is an innovative EdTech company focused on creating a community-owned ecosystem that empowers educators and learners. The Director of Technology Operations will lead the architecture, reliability, and security of the platform, ensuring it is robust and scalable to support a rapidly growing user base. Responsibilities • Guide the evolution of ClimbHigh.AI’s 80-90% open-source-based software and infrastructure strategy, building a hybrid environment that combines on-prem-first compute, global multi-cloud services, and the operational rigor required for AI-driven workloads • Assess our current systems, design what comes next, and oversee the implementation of resilient architectures across compute, storage, networking, observability, and security • Establish and enforce standards for uptime (starting with the current R&D environments 90% uptime and improving it to 99% during working hours up time, and building/improving the Production environments working up time to 99% within 6 months, 99.9% within 9 months, 99.99% within 12 months, and 99.999% 'five nines' within 18 months), redundancy, security, standards compliance, incident response, and disaster recovery — ensuring the platform remains stable and compliant as we scale • Develop and maintain our monitoring and observability frameworks, giving teams the insight they need to operate efficiently and proactively • Lead the design and enforcement of security policies, data protection measures, least-privilege standards, and compliance practices across a platform that interfaces with learners, global educators, and sensitive content ecosystems • Partner with legal and compliance teams to uphold requirements connected to FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, HIPAA (where applicable), and global data privacy frameworks • Help guide the operational readiness of new features and models, ensuring our technical foundation scales with our product roadmap • Support cross-functional initiatives, mentor engineers, establish operational rhythms, and introduce systems that increase efficiency and reduce risk across the entire organization's technology infrastructure • Build and lead a high-performing Engineering Operations function, including infrastructure technology, DevOps/SRE, security (physical, information, & cyber), and systems reliability roles Skills • 15+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps/SRE, or engineering operations, with 5+ years in a leadership role • Deep expertise with multiple on-prem environments, an extensive range of open source software (80-90%+ of all our software is open source), multi-cloud automated overflow architecture, and hybrid deployment models • Must have a minimum of 5 years operating a highly available 'five nines' (99.999%) uptime production environment, scalable and secure systems • Hands-on experience with personally hand-built and vendor-supplied hardware systems, physical and multi-cloud hybrid networking, API gateways, git automation, SSO, load balancing, and global traffic management • Strong background in infrastructure automation, CI/CD systems, and observability tooling • Experience leading security practices, including identity management (Gluu/Janssen experience a big plus), data protection, and incident response • Demonstrated ability to build processes, systems, and operational frameworks for fast-growing technology companies • Exceptional communication skills, especially when translating complex systems concepts for non-technical audiences • Experience supporting on-prem and multi-cloud hybrid AI/ML infrastructure, high-performance computer (HPC), and GPU orchestration • Our infrastructure is 100% Linux-based, mostly Debian (some Ubuntu) • Our software infrastructure is 80-90% open-source based, must have extensive open source products experience, including engaging, and giving back to multiple open source communities (include links to your postings, git commits merged, and other proof of your open source project engagement for large open source community projects) • Extensive experience managing highly diversified open source platforms, candidates with proven experience with any of the following will rise to the top of the list if they can prove production and community engagement for the following: Linux (any distro), Nginx, Apache, PostGreSQL, Matrix-synapse, ERPNext, Jitsi, Gitea, Moodle, Flutter, Kong, Ollama, vLLM, Janssen / Gluu, MediaCMS, Maubot, or any other large community that actively supports open source projects • Familiarity with EdTech, education platforms, or regulated industries (FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, HIPAA) • Work with compliance-heavy architectures, secure data pipelines, or sensitive content workflows • Background designing infrastructure for multi-sided platforms or community-driven ecosystems • Early-stage, zero-to-one experience building engineering operations from scratch • Experience with cooperative, community-owned, or open-source technology models Company Overview • 67% creator-owned AI education platform.
