Perform transmission and market analysis to support project siting, M&A, and risk mitigation for renewable energy assets, maintain production-cost models, and engage with external consultants and stakeholders.
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related, 3+ years renewable energy analytical experience, 2+ years power systems and SCED modeling, knowledge of market fundamentals, programming skills, and strong communication.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Transmission Modeling, this role will be responsible for supporting the analysis of SPP, MISO, PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE power markets with a focus on transmission analysis, congestion, and curtailment risk. This analysis will support project siting and sizing for greenfield development, M&A activities, and hedging basis risk for an operating portfolio of wind, solar, and storage assets. Senior Analyst duties include performing short- and medium-term SCED studies to develop the Company’s internal view on basis, curtailment, and congestion associated with the Company’s development and operating fleet; supporting the energy optimization/trading team with scenario-based analysis to mitigate market risks; analyzing market impacts due to planned generation, transmission, retirements, and evolving energy market fundamentals; providing insights and analysis into congestion and curtailment in support of offtake structures; maintaining updates to internal production-cost models; leading and managing engagements with external transmission consultants; and participating in relevant ISO, RTO, and PUC transmission and planning stakeholder meetings. Fundamental analysis includes supporting long-term fundamental market view development and providing updated views on zonal transfer flow limits. Associate duties include representing the team in periodic development calls and tracking project statuses, deliverables, and analysis requests. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field; 3+ years analytical experience in renewable energy or related sectors; 2+ years power systems, electric market design, or energy trading experience; 2+ years production-cost modeling using SCED software; knowledge of CAISO & WECC market fundamentals; knowledge of power systems and market analysis tools; understanding of transmission systems, power flow, congestion, and curtailment; fundamental knowledge of solar, wind, and battery storage asset operations; working knowledge of SQL and Python or other programming languages; knowledge of ISO and RTO wholesale market operations and state regulations; working knowledge of capacity and ancillary services markets; strong problem-solving, negotiation, communication skills, and attention to detail; ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment. Associate level requires 5+ years analytical experience and 3+ years SCED analysis using PROMOD. The role is hybrid with office presence expected Tuesdays and Thursdays in San Diego or other Clearway offices.
