You will coordinate the planning and execution of creative communications, manage content calendars, produce engaging social media content, and create professional videos and photography. Working closely with teams throughout the organization, you will help tell stories that resonate with the public and reflect the City’s values. Success in this position requires a strong understanding of digital platforms, social trends, and audience behavior. Equally important is the ability to use those insights to develop clear, strategic content that builds trust, strengthens connections, and increases visibility. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, public administration, or a related field. We seek at least two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, or public information, including at least one year managing social media and producing video content professionally. Fluency in Spanish is preferred and highly valued to help us engage the full diversity of our community. Additional information regarding this position, including minimum qualifications and essential job functions, can be found below. __________________________________________________________ Under general direction, performs a variety of activities to build awareness of City projects, events, policies and programs, focusing on social media engagement, multi-media content development, video shooting and production, and activities to support inclusive outreach. Monitors social channels to engage with community as appropriate. Schedules and develops content to be shared on multiple City channels in support of the work of the City Council, staff, Boards, agency partners, and community-based organizations. Reports directly to the Communications & Marketing Manager. Exercises no direct supervision of staff.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The following tasks are representative and not to be considered all inclusive. • Oversee day-to-day management of the City’s social media sites, including scheduling, posting, amplifying content and responding timely to questions and concerns from community members. • Develop multi-media content, including video packages, GIFs, photos, infographics, fliers, display ads, etc. • Understand and explore new and emerging content platforms, and make recommendations for implementation as necessary. • Build awareness of City programs, events and goals across social media channels, websites and other platforms. • Post content on the City’s websites, adhering to style and branding guidelines, and maintaining consistency of message, voice and style. • Complete tasks identified in Administration meetings, Council/Board meetings, or cross-functional staff meetings as directed. • Provide support for Communications and Marketing Manager as directed. • Write and edit stories and/or news releases for publication in Boones Ferry Messenger, employee newsletter, e-newsletters and/or City website(s). • Develop and execute of strategies and tactics (including managing translated content) to improve engagement with non-English speakers. • Analyze and report online engagement, develop performance measures using qualitative and quantitative metrics, and provide reports and recommendations. • Develop and maintain content calendars that include upcoming projects, events, meetings, and dates of significance. • Assist in content development for two City websites, including website building, editing, collaboration with other departments, recommendations for improvements and features. • Support the City's communications goals, objectives, and timelines. • Perform additional duties and special projects in general support of the City's Administration department, as needed. Respond to phone/email as soon as possible. • Follow through in a timely manner on commitments made to customers and provide estimated timeline for completion. • Change voicemail and email when out of office/unavailable and provide alternate contact person for customers. • Demonstrate a "can-do" approach. • Exhibit problem-solving skills leading to sound judgment and quality decisions. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, public administration or a related field OR equivalent technical training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills; - AND - Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in communication, marketing, and/or and public information programs, including at least 1 year managing social media and developing videos in a business. - OR - Any equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Experience & Skills • Experience in digital content production, including basic HTML • Video editing in PremierPro or similar • Extensive understanding of multiple social media channels • Customer service experience • Strong writing and editing skills • Spanish fluency (write, read and speak) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities • Knowledge of principles, practices and applications of public information, community outreach and marketing. • Knowledge of social media • Knowledge of website development/HTML • Knowledge of digital photography, videography and digital editing • Knowledge of copy editing and proofreading practices • Knowledge of multi-media content creation for online distribution • Knowledge of graphic design basics • Knowledge of web content management systems (CMS) • Knowledge of website ADA compliance practices • Knowledge of search Engine Optimization (SEO) • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, basic HTML, and Google Analytics. • Knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop • Ability to collaborate, and support team-first culture • Ability to maintain an open mind; hear and consider diverse voices and ideas. • Ability to meet deadlines, and remain calm under the pressure of deadlines • Ability to treat co-workers with respect and dignity at all times • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing • Ability to perform work with minimal supervision • Ability to think creatively, follow digital industry trends to identify new/innovative communications tactics. • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot communications challenges using logical and creative thought processes • Ability to facilitate successful working relationships with co-workers and be a positive influence • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to co-workers and community members • Ability to apply integrity, ingenuity, empathy and innovation in the performance of assigned tasks • Ability to learn and adapt to rapidly changing information and technology Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in an environmentally controlled office environment but may have exposure to adverse weather conditions related to outdoor events. Work assignments include evenings and weekends. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. Additionally, this position requires travel to/between city facilities via motor vehicle. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive Functions: The position incumbent works in a fast-paced office environment characterized by frequent deadlines, interruptions, and complex decision making processes. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. Work is performed with minimal direction and supervision. Work routinely requires independent judgment and most problems are difficult with precedent occasionally available. The incumbent must be capable of working effectively with coworkers and members of the public. Concentration and focus are required to complete complex, detail oriented tasks.
