Job Summary We are seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our engineering department. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our engineering and construction teams on a variety of design and construction projects. This internship offers hands-on exposure to client interactions, contractor coordination, and communication with government officials. You will gain experience across the full project lifecycle-from conceptual design and engineering development through regulatory reviews, bidding, and construction. Essential Job Functions • Attendance, physically present to work. • Assist with civil engineering tasks ranging from basic to moderate complexity. • Learn drainage calculations and develop foundational engineering drawings using CAD software. • Accompany construction inspectors during site visits and inspections. • Support both office and field operations as needed. • Organize and maintain as-built design documentation. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements • Completion of two years toward a B.S. in Engineering or Engineering related field. • Completed coursework in engineering and/or construction management. • Must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense. • Must have current valid Class "C" Texas Driver License and be insurable. • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Some experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Ability to support field inspections, testing coordination, and basic Q/A documentation. • Good technical writing, presentation, and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Demonstrate initiative, strong work ethic, leadership potential, and effective communication. Working Conditions/Physical Demands • Requires ability to navigate construction sites and move across uneven or rough terrain. • Involves occasional walking, standing, sitting, stooping, lifting, moving, or positioning objects weighing up to 20 lbs. • Sitting and standing in front of a computer monitor for extended periods of time. • The regular day-to-day work environment may involve typical indoor/outdoor conditions and various physical discomforts, including unpleasant odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt, and grease. • Office conditions are sitting, standing in an air-conditioned environment while coordinating with office staff on a daily basis.
