Position Summary and Purpose: The Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for critical commodities that support Cincinnati Incorporated’s build-to-order manufacturing operations, including major laser components, metals, electrical, motion control, hydraulics, and complex subassemblies. This role drives supplier performance, total cost of ownership, continuity of supply, and long-term risk mitigation across a highly engineered, low-volume / high- mix production environment. This position partners cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Program Management to ensure on-time machine delivery, margin protection, and scalable supplier capacity. ideal for candidates who thrive in a hands-on, collaborative manufacturing environment Essential Functions • Develop and maintain multi-year commodity strategies aligned with CI’s business objectives and product roadmaps for both new product development (NPD) and legacy platforms. • Lead supplier identification, evaluation, and strategic negotiations across assigned commodities. • Execute structured spend analysis, RFP development, data analysis, negotiation, implementation, and compliance monitoring for companywide sourcing initiatives. • Lead strategic supplier negotiations, including pricing, long-term agreements, capacity planning, and cost transparency. • Drive and support cost-reduction and value-engineering (VAVE) initiatives in collaboration with Engineering and strategic suppliers. • Establish and execute dual-sourcing and supply-risk mitigation strategies for critical and long-lead components. • Manage supplier performance across delivery, quality, service, and cost using supplier scorecards and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs). • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Planning to support and execute Cincinnati Incorporated’s Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) process with key suppliers, ensuring demand forecasts, capacity planning, and material strategies are aligned to machine build schedules and revenue objectives. • Monitor and manage market volatility, tariffs, and material surcharges impacting CI’s cost structure; communicate these cost drivers to key internal stakeholders. • Support Buyers with escalation management, supplier recovery actions, and execution support. • Utilize Epicor ERP, dashboards, and GROW analytics to drive data-based sourcing decisions and management reporting. Work Experience • 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment. • Experience supporting engineered products, capital equipment, or machine-build operations. • Demonstrated success in supplier negotiations, cost modeling, and VAVE initiatives. • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel. • Preferred Qualifications • Experience with commodities such as metals, fabrication, machining, electrical/controls, hydraulics, motion control, or automation. • Global sourcing and supplier development experience. • Familiarity with tariff management, cost-breakdown analysis, and long-term supply agreements. • Lean, Six Sigma, ISM, APICS, or similar certifications. Physical Demands and Work Environment • Physical Demands: Occasionally stand, walk, sit, and use hands for objects/tools. Requires specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment). • Work Environment: Moderate noise level. • Travel: Up to 15-20% annually, including Domestic and limited international travel. Education • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
