Full Description

We’re seeking our inaugural Communications Director to lead our communications strategy, crafting bold narrative campaigns that drive change in the five states we work in. About CeaseFirePA Education Fund CeaseFirePA is dedicated to ending the epidemic of gun violence in Pennsylvania. Our goal is simple: everyone in the Commonwealth should live in safe communities. Gun violence, in any form, makes that an impossible reality. Description Gun violence shatters lives across America every day, from firearm suicides in rural communities to unintentional shootings and street violence in our cities. Behind each tragedy is a story, and too often, a policy failure that allowed it to happen. The Gun Violence Prevention Cooperative launched in 2025 to empower state-based gun violence prevention advocacy organizations as the central hubs for gun safety policy. An innovative new model, in its first year the Cooperative has launched coordinated messaging campaigns to lift up the work of our members, crafted narratives about the power of campaigns the majority of us are working on, and improved our digital efforts. We’re now seeking our inaugural Communications Director to lead our communications strategy, crafting bold narrative campaigns that drive change in our states. The Communications Director will design coordinated communications campaigns that can be deployed in each of our states, provide direct support to our members during key moments in their work, and design narrative strategies to bring attention to our efforts in an increasingly fractured communications framework. They will work closely with our members' communications staff and also be responsible for executing on communication’s campaigns themselves. You should apply if: • You’re a powerful storyteller who crafts emotionally resonant narratives across video, visual, and written formats to build movements and drive policy change. • You’re a strategist and a doer, you build campaigns, align messaging across channels, and adapt quickly in high-stakes moments—always keeping your hands on the work to strengthen impact. • You connect communications to organizing and policy, navigating today’s shifting attention landscape with clarity and purpose. • You are a force multiplier who can scale efforts across a coalition of organizations, helping amplify and enhance the reach of their work. Key Responsibilities • Develop, launch and manage high impact campaigns across our member states including rapid response to breaking news, identifying narratives that will work for all of our members, crafting narrative campaigns to steer attention to impactful solutions. • Lead communications outreach for our rapid response and major cross-member communication campaigns. • Create and deploy high impact content across multiple formats (written, video, graphics) to inspire, inform, and mobilize with a focus on new media spaces including influencers and social media. • Lead multi-channel communications efforts across our member partners making easy to deploy campaigns that drive change. • Improve skills of our members by providing guidance, running trainings, and identifying opportunities to improve content. • Track and analyze data to assess impact and inform strategy. Required Qualifications • 8+ years experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or content strategy with a preference for at least 3 years of experience in advocacy, organizing or campaigning. • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives that illuminate urgent issues, challenge harmful policies, and mobilize communities. • Able to evolve with the fluid media and attention economy landscape, using new approaches to educate the public and drive action. • Passion for ending gun violence and have a trauma-informed approach to working with survivors and impacted communities. • Highly organized individual able to drive multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality. • Self-starter able to work independently who enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives, including making a persuasive case for implementation. • Experience working with consultants and/or managing communications staff. • Familiarity with WordPress, Canva, and EveryAction (other webhosting, design, digital tools and CRMs required). Location: This position must be based in one of our member states (PA, TX, WI, OR, DE) near a major airport. Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 based on experience. Paid time off and a professional stipend included. Retirement, insurance and other benefits may vary based on location. About the Gun Violence Prevention Cooperative: The Gun Violence Prevention Cooperative is a shared services hub that empowers state-based organizations to be central hubs for gun safety policy, effectively reducing gun violence across the United States. Our current members are CeaseFirePA, WAVE (Wisconsin), Texas GunSense, Alliance for a Safer Oregon, and Coalition for a Safer Delaware. By supporting local entities with strategic guidance, capacity building, and coordinated resources, the Cooperative creates a powerful, unified movement for change. Our approach is rooted in the belief that state-level action is the most effective way to drive national progress, following successful precedents in movements for marriage equality and environmental protection. The Gun Violence Prevention Cooperative is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse, inclusive workplace. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, veterans, people with disabilities, and those with Salary $70,000 - $80,000 per year
