Director of Nursing (RN) Location: Highland Health & Rehabilitation of Cascadia – Bellingham, WA Full-Time | Competitive Salary + Benefits Highland Health & Rehabilitation of Cascadia is a 44-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center dedicated to exceptional, person-centered care. We’re seeking an experienced and inspiring Director of Nursing (RN) to lead our clinical team, elevate care outcomes, and strengthen a culture rooted in compassion, accountability, and excellence. As the Director of Nursing, you will guide the overall clinical direction of the facility. You’ll oversee the nursing department, develop and support your team, uphold regulatory standards, and partner with the Administrator to drive operational and quality initiatives. This role is ideal for a strong leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about empowering both residents and staff. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Team Development • Lead, coach, and support nurse managers, supervisors, and frontline staff. • Promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement. • Assess staffing needs, create strategic staffing plans, and ensure adequate nurse-to-resident ratios. • Oversee onboarding, training, and ongoing education for the nursing team. Clinical Excellence & Quality Outcomes • Ensure resident care is person-centered, evidence-based, and aligned with clinical best practices. • Monitor clinical indicators, analyze trends, and implement targeted quality improvement initiatives. • Oversee care planning to ensure individualized, comprehensive plans are completed and followed. • Uphold medication management, infection control, and safety standards. Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for skilled nursing facilities. • Stay survey-ready at all times and lead teams through audits and corrective action plans. • Investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Serve as a key point of communication for residents, families, physicians, and partners. • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams—including rehab, social services, and dietary—to coordinate care. • Represent the nursing department in leadership meetings and care conferences. Operational & Financial Leadership • Manage the nursing department budget and allocate resources effectively. • Ensure appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and staffing to balance quality and efficiency. • Act as the facility’s operational leader when the Administrator is offsite or unavailable. What You Bring: • Active RN license in Washington (or willingness to obtain). • 3–5 years of leadership experience in long-term care, preferably as a DON or ADON. • Strong knowledge of skilled nursing regulations, care practices, and clinical systems. • Proven ability to build trust, motivate teams, and support professional development. • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. • A commitment to resident dignity, safety, and quality care.
