Our client, a busy sole practitioner in Columbia, SC, is hiring a versatile part time Criminal Defense Paralegal / Legal Administrator. This unique role is a true right-hand to the attorney, combining critical paralegal work with essential administrative and office management duties. The firm handles both criminal defense and personal injury cases. The attorney needs a self-sufficient and proactive professional to manage the practice's daily operations. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys a varied workload and wants to be the organizational backbone of a successful litigation practice. This position will start out temp to perm and at 20 hours per week. You must be open to this. Key Responsibilities: Paralegal Duties: • Assist the attorney in preparing criminal defense cases from arrest through trial. • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses. • Manage personal injury case files, from requesting medical records to preparing demand letters. • Communicate effectively with clients, courts, and opposing counsel. • Help the attorney prepare for hearings, depositions, and trials. Administrative & Intake Duties: • Serve as the first point of contact for all potential new clients. • Conduct thorough client intakes for both criminal and personal injury matters. • Manage the firm’s master calendar and schedule all appointments. • Handle all general office management tasks to ensure a smooth workflow. • Maintain office supplies and coordinate with necessary vendors. Required Qualifications: • A minimum of 2+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience in criminal law is required. • Experience in personal injury or civil litigation is a significant plus. • Proven success handling administrative tasks and client intakes. • Exceptional client service skills with a professional and empathetic demeanor. • Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to multitask effectively. • Proficiency with legal case management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
