Assessment: Candidates may be asked to complete a copy-editing and video-editing exercise as part of the application process. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, highly relational Lead Instructional Designer & Faculty Coach to partner with law faculty in designing, implementing, and continuously improving online and hybrid courses. This role blends instructional design expertise, faculty coaching, and hands-on content development, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and trust. An open mind and a genuine willingness to learn are essential. We bring expertise in pedagogy, process, and learning design; faculty bring subject-matter expertise and professional experience. Together, we create rigorous, engaging, and compliant legal education experiences. Key Responsibilities Faculty Partnership & Coaching • Partner one-on-one with law faculty to support course design, assessment planning, and online/hybrid teaching strategies. • Coach faculty on effective pedagogy, adult learning principles, curriculum alignment, and active learning techniques. • Provide constructive, actionable feedback on course materials while maintaining a collaborative, faculty-centered approach. • Serve as a trusted liaison between faculty and the broader instructional team. • Facilitate workshops, trainings, or informal “brown bag” sessions. Course Design & Development • Design and develop online and hybrid law courses aligned with learning objectives and academic standards. • Translate learning outcomes into meaningful assessments and learning experiences. • Create and refine syllabi, lesson structures, assessments, and instructional content. • Analyze assessment and course data to identify areas for improvement. Learning Management Systems & Technology • Build and manage courses in Canvas and/or Brightspace. • Troubleshoot basic LMS and instructional technology issues. • Develop templates and reusable faculty resources. Content Production & Quality Assurance • Copyedit course materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency. • Produce and edit instructional videos. • Integrate multimedia elements. • Conduct regular quality reviews of course materials. Qualifications Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Legal Studies, or related field (Master’s preferred). • Experience in instructional design or faculty support. • Strong coaching and relationship-building skills. • Knowledge of pedagogy and assessment design. • Excellent communication skills. • Growth mindset with a desire to continually learn and develop skills. • Receives and integrates feedback well into iterative processes Preferred: • Experience in legal education or professional graduate programs. • Experience facilitating faculty development. Technical Skills & Tools Canvas, Brightspace, Camtasia, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Acrobat, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Zoom, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365 (especially Word and PowerPoint). Core Competencies Relationship-building, instructional design, faculty coaching, collaboration, analytical thinking, receiving and sharing constructive feedback. Cover Letter Questions: 1. On a scale of 1–10, how would you rate your video editing skills? Why? 2. On a scale of 1–10, how would you rate your ability to build a course in Canvas or D2L without using a template? 3. Out of the total time you spend developing and building a course as an instructional designer, what percentage of your time do you spend doing each of the following (if you don't spend any time, please mark with 0%): • Meeting with the Professor/SME • Reviewing the course with and providing design feedback to the Professor/SME • Calculating minutes and/or student and professor time spent in course • Editing and finalizing Professor/SME-created media content • Building the course in the LMS 4. How would you address this situation? Scenario: You’re working with a tenured law professor who has been teaching the same core course for over 20 years. The professor is deeply passionate about the Socratic Method and dialogue and believes that students learn best through this approach. The professor has agreed to move the course online, but it’s clear they are anxious about losing the rigor and personal connection that comes with in-person teaching. Over the past few weeks, you’ve noticed several challenges: • The professor frequently misses deadlines and submits materials late. • They send long emails late at night with new ideas that would require major revisions to content already developed. • They occasionally express frustration or doubt about whether online learning will truly work for their students. • They are juggling personal responsibilities, research commitments, and committee work, which sometimes makes them overwhelmed. Job Type: Contract Pay: $40.00 per hour Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week Benefits: • Flexible schedule Application Question(s): • I have a degree or experience in a legal field of study. • I will answer the cover letter questions and attach it to my submission. Education: • Master's (Preferred) Work Location: Remote
