Operations ManagerAbout the Role The Operations Manager is a hands-on leader who ensures crews are prepared, customers are satisfied, and daily operations run smoothly. This role blends personnel management, customer support, scheduling, warehouse oversight, and after-hours accountability. It is not a desk job — success requires being present, earning respect from crews, and proactively solving problems as they arise. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent management experience preferred. • 4+ years of proven managerial experience in fast-paced, labor-intensive environments (moving industry experience preferred but not required). • Must possess or obtain a valid chauffeur’s license. • Forklift certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days). • Ability to balance empathy and accountability with crews through fairness, consistency, and clear communication. • Comfortable answering and converting prospective customer calls to supplement the sales staff. • Hands-on leadership style, willing to step into field roles when needed. • Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills. • Ability to analyze and improve processes. • Calm under pressure with sound decision-making in high-stress situations. • Proficiency with computer/software tools, reporting, and communication. Core Responsibilities Operations & Efficiency • Enforce and improve policies, processes, and safety standards. • Track KPIs and operational reports; adjust schedules, staffing, or workflows as needed. • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other regulations. Personnel Leadership • Supervise movers and drivers daily; provide visible leadership at opening and closing. • Hold staff accountable while fostering a respectful culture. • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and coach employees. • Conduct regular performance reviews and track employee metrics. Customer & Sales Support • Answer and convert inbound customer calls, provide accurate quotes, and conduct follow-ups. • Perform on-site estimates (mileage reimbursed). • Oversee customer satisfaction, reviews, and claim resolutions. Logistics & Warehouse Management • Schedule and dispatch crews daily to maximize efficiency and manage overtime. • Step into operational coverage when crew shortages or urgent issues arise. • Oversee warehouse safety, organization, and equipment readiness, including forklift operation. Administrative & Compliance • Audit and approve timesheets to ensure accurate payroll. • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards. • Track and report employee and operational metrics. Availability & Leadership Presence • Serve as the point of contact for after-hours issues (crew emergencies, breakdowns, billing adjustments, customer complaints, etc.). • Review and approve quotes during business hours. • Maintain visibility during mornings and evenings to support daily execution. Work Schedule • 53 hours per week, Monday–Friday (7:30 AM – 5:00 PM). • Saturdays (April–September): Mandatory, 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM. • Saturdays (October–March): In-person as needed based on volume and risk. • When remote: Monitor morning crew departure and act as the main contact for urgent issues and quote approvals.
