Job Title: DIRECTOR, HIGH VALUE IMPACT OPPORTUNITIES, PRINCIPAL GIFTS Job Location(s): Remote Location Job Summary This role sits at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and program design. You will translate CARE’s complex humanitarian and development work into bespoke philanthropic investment opportunities that inspire seven- and eight-figure gifts. Serving as the intellectual bridge between technical experts and ambitious investors, you will distill dense data and theories of change into clear, donor-ready propositions that transform intricate concepts into urgent, human-centered narratives. You will lead the narrative strategy for principal gifts, crafting customized, multi-year proposals and vision papers that demonstrate measurable ROI and intellectual rigor. Working closely with the Office of the President and Principal Gift fundraisers, you will provide the strategic materials needed to secure major commitments. Additionally, you will rapidly synthesize information on both sudden-onset crises and long-term development programs to keep sophisticated donors connected to the evolving impact of their investments. Responsibilities Content Creation & Storytelling • Craft compelling narratives that translate CARE's programmatic work into stories that inspire and motivate principal gift donors, emphasizing outcomes, innovation, and transformational change. • In collaboration with internal teams, oversee the creation of sophisticated visual and written materials for a principal giving donor audience. • Produce thought leadership content positioning CARE executives and program experts for strategic donor engagement and event participation. Internal Liaison and Coordination • Build strong working relationships with CARE's global programs team to ensure deep understanding of programmatic work and accurate representation of impact. • Work closely with program and country office colleagues to identify and co-create compelling transformational opportunities for philanthropic investment. • Partner with Marketing and Resource Development teams to ensure brand consistency while maintaining the elevated standards required for principal gift engagement. • Collaborate with Executive Leadership to prepare executives for donor meetings, site visits, and speaking opportunities. Audience Engagement • Design culturally relevant, emotionally resonant messaging tailored to specific donor segments, ensuring alignment with individual donor motivations and CARE's mission. • Develop high-quality, customized content including impact reports, case statements, giving opportunity briefs, personalized proposals, emergency talking points, stewardship reports, and multimedia presentations. • Ensure consistency and quality across all donor-facing communications while maintaining flexibility for personalization. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, International Relations, Journalism, or related field; Master's degree preferred • 8-10 years of progressive experience in communications, with at least 5 years specifically in nonprofit/social impact strategic communications, major gifts, or high-net-worth donor engagement • Demonstrated expertise in developing audience-specific strategies and personalized engagement plans for sophisticated philanthropic audiences • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across multiple formats and channels, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality donor-facing materials • Strong understanding of donor psychology, philanthropic motivations, and the cultivation-solicitation-stewardship cycle • Proven ability to translate complex programmatic information into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences • Experience using data, research, and donor insights to inform communications strategies • Project management excellence with ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines • Proficiency in digital communications platforms, content management systems, and design tools Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with international humanitarian or development organizations • Familiarity with wealth management, philanthropy advising, or working with family offices There are individuals who may use CARE’s name and trademark in emails and on websites in an attempt to solicit fees from interested job-seekers.
