Director, Home Loans Discontinued Operations (Remote) Overview: This is a senior leadership opportunity to drive the strategy and execution of the Discover Home Loans portfolio wind-down and manage Capital One's Home Loans Discontinued Operations. Capital One seeks an experienced leader to oversee operational and analytical functions related to the discontinued operation activities. The Senior Manager/Director will lead a team of subject matter experts and direct all portfolio sale activities, including complex issue resolution, regulatory compliance, and repurchase demand activity. This is a highly visible role that requires strategic vision, exceptional leadership skills, collaboration with other teams within Capital One including, legal, finance and technology and the ability to navigate a sensitive business transition with precision and integrity. Working in a discontinued operations department requires a unique mindset and a high degree of flexibility. The work is project-based and can shift quickly based on the evolving needs of the wind-down process. Leadership in this environment is critical and the successful candidate will be experienced in leading in adverse situations. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership and Team Management • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the operations team responsible for resolving issues related to the discontinued portfolio • Set team priorities and goals, ensure consistent quality, and drive continuous improvement of processes and procedures Complex Issue and Legal Oversight • Oversee the investigation and resolution of high-priority customer complaints, issues, and events, ensuring timely and effective resolution • Provide guidance on credit bureau disputes, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting • Oversee and guide litigation support activities, including directing communication strategies and ensuring that all necessary documentation is prepared accurately and on time Investor Relations and Rep/Warranty Management • Oversee the team's responses to all R&W claims and inquiries from investors or third parties • Develop and implement strategies to manage and mitigate potential R&W risks related to the portfolio • Collaborate with legal on R&W risks and loan level litigation matters • Work with legal, finance and credit accounting to set reserves for R&W risk as needed • Execute legal documents as needed for litigation matters Skills and Competencies • Ability to define and execute the overall strategy for the portfolio wind-down, balancing legal, compliance, and customer experience considerations • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to articulate complex issues to senior leadership, legal counsel, and other key stakeholders • Expertise in mortgage regulatory compliance and a proven ability to manage risk effectively in a complex operational environment • Advanced decision-making skills to resolve the most escalated and complex issues independently • A track record of effectively partnering across different lines of business and job families to deliver results • Experience in leading and motivating teams through significant change while maintaining morale and performance • A team player willing to step in and perform tasks as needed for staff Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree or military experience • At least 7 years of experience in mortgage loan servicing or operations • At least 3 years of experience with Discover's Home Loan business including originations and servicing • At least 3 years of experience in people management Preferred Qualifications • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance • Experience leading teams through a business wind-down, portfolio acquisition, or similar large-scale operational transition At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. Remote (Regardless of Location): $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Risk Management Richmond, VA: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Risk Management Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
