Role Overview: As a Customs & Trade Compliance Advisor based in Melville, NY, you will play a critical role in ensuring that Canon's supply chain operations comply with all applicable customs and trade regulations. You will provide expert guidance on import/export compliance, helping to mitigate risks and streamline logistics processes. What You'll Do: - You will monitor and ensure compliance with U.S. customs laws and international trade regulations. - You will advise internal teams on customs classification, valuation, and documentation requirements. - You will collaborate with logistics, legal, and procurement departments to manage trade compliance risks. - You will conduct audits and assessments to identify and resolve compliance issues. - You will stay updated on changes in trade laws and regulations and communicate their impact to relevant stakeholders. - You will support the development and implementation of customs compliance policies and procedures. - You will liaise with customs brokers, government agencies, and external partners to facilitate smooth customs clearance. - You will assist in training employees on customs and trade compliance best practices. What You Bring: - Minimum of 3 years of experience in customs and trade compliance within a corporate or logistics environment. - Strong knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, import/export laws, and international trade agreements. - Experience with customs classification systems such as HTS and familiarity with valuation methods. - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across departments. - Proficiency in compliance management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Bonus Points If You Have: - Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) designation. - Experience working in the technology or electronics industry. - Knowledge of global trade compliance frameworks such as ITAR, EAR, or GDPR. - Experience with SAP or other ERP systems related to supply chain management.
