Full Description

Physics Expert (PhD) Hourly Contract | Part-time Remote (US) $70 –$85 per hour About the Role A leading AI research initiative is seeking Physics PhD experts to contribute to a frontier project advancing large language models (LLMs). In this role, you’ll leverage your deep subject-matter expertise to design, evaluate, and refine high-quality physics problems that challenge AI systems to reason with precision and scientific rigor. Your work will directly influence how next-generation AI models understand and replicate real-world reasoning in physics — spanning classical mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and relativity. Key Responsibilities • Develop and assess complex, real-world physics problems across major subfields. • Evaluate AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, mathematical rigor, and conceptual depth. • Provide clear, structured written feedback on model outputs and solutions. • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers to improve reasoning, consistency, and fidelity in physics-related datasets. • Maintain academic precision and ensure all content meets the highest standards of scientific integrity. Ideal Qualifications • PhD in Physics or a closely related discipline from a top-tier university. • 2+ years of experience in academia or research (teaching, publication, or professional work as a physicist/engineer). • Strong analytical reasoning and exceptional attention to detail. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. • Prior experience evaluating academic or technical content preferred. Project Timeline • Start Date: Immediate • Duration: 1–2 months • Commitment: Part-time (~20 hours/week, extendable to 40 hours/week) • Schedule: Fully remote and asynchronous — work flexibly on your own time Compensation & Contract • Rate: $70–$85 USD/hour (based on experience) • Contract Type: Independent contractor • Payments: Weekly via Stripe Connect Application & Onboarding Process • Submit your resume and brief application form. • Complete a 15-minute AI interview focused on your domain expertise and interests. • Participate in a paid, 4-hour work trial to demonstrate your ability to create and evaluate physics-specific content. ⚡ PS: Mercor team reviews applications daily. Please complete your AI interview and application steps to be considered for this opportunity. ⚡
