Strong hands-on RPG IV and Free-Format RPGLE experience, DB2/400 expertise, IBM i architecture knowledge, and ability to architect RPG systems with external integrations.
We’re seeking a Senior RPG Developer / IBM i Systems Architect to design, build, and optimize complex business applications that power enterprise operations. This is a hands-on technical and architectural role — ideal for someone who loves working on the IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) platform while shaping system architecture, integrations, and modernization strategy. What You’ll Do • Design and develop high-performance applications using RPG IV (ILE RPG) and Free-Format RPGLE. • Build and maintain CL programs and Embedded SQL routines for DB2/400 data access. • Architect integrations between RPG systems and external applications (APIs, flat files, data feeds). • Troubleshoot, debug, and refactor code in high-availability production environments. • Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and schema design. • Partner closely with business analysts and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions. • Participate in Agile sprints and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. What We’re Looking For✅ Core Technical Skills • Strong hands-on experience in RPG IV (ILE RPG) and Free-Format RPGLE. • Expertise with DB2/400 database design, query optimization, and performance tuning. • Deep understanding of the IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) architecture, object-based file system, and security concepts. • Proven background architecting RPG-based business systems, not just coding. • Ability to integrate RPG applications with external systems using APIs or file-based exchanges. ✅ Functional & Domain Experience • Familiarity with distribution, retail, or HVAC industry business processes. • Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and designs. • Experience working closely with analysts, QA, and stakeholders in collaborative teams. ✅ Soft Skills & Professional Attributes • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences. • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset. • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and dependable in remote / hybrid environments. • Team-oriented approach with the ability to lead initiatives when needed. Nice to Have (Highly Preferred) • Familiarity with Turnover Change Management, JIRA, Robot Scheduler, DBU, Hawkeye, or IFS. • Experience with Stored Procedures and modern RPG modernization projects. • Exposure to other programming languages or integration frameworks.
