Design and improve operational workflows, lead escalations, and implement automation to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Requires 5+ years in operations or systems engineering with strong scripting, data analysis, KPI management, and process improvement skills.
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. BusRight is a company dedicated to improving school transportation safety and efficiency through advanced technology. They are seeking a Senior Operations Engineer to design and scale operational systems and processes, working cross-functionally to enhance workflows and drive efficiency in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities • Design, document, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) across teams • Standardize workflows, define handoff protocols (RACI, swim lanes), and establish clear ownership for cross-functional processes • Lead process audits to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and risk areas — then drive improvements end-to-end • Build launch readiness checklists, incident/escalation frameworks, and change management playbooks • Evaluate, configure, and optimize internal tools and platforms to support operational workflows • Build and maintain workflow automations that reduce manual effort and improve reliability • Integrate AI and AI-native solutions into operational processes to accelerate throughput and reduce error rates • Lead vendor transitions, system migrations, and the consolidation or decommissioning of redundant tools • Define, instrument, and govern company-level and team-level KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics • Build and maintain executive dashboards, operational scorecards, and efficiency reports that provide real-time visibility into performance • Conduct root cause analysis, trend identification, and variance reporting to surface actionable insights • Develop capacity models and forecasts to support leadership in scaling scope and revenue while controlling costs • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues spanning customer operations, SIS integrations, and hardware • Analyze data sets, route performance metrics, and system logs to diagnose and resolve issues at their root cause • Drive resolution patterns from one-off fixes to reusable solutions — document recurring issues and preventive measures • Proactively identify operational risks, process gaps, and improvement opportunities before they impact performance • Lead capacity and workload modeling efforts that help the company scale without proportionally scaling cost • Support quarterly operational planning, intake prioritization frameworks, and KPI review cadences • Take point on special projects including new market operational setup and strategic initiative support Skills • 5+ years of experience in operations engineering, technical operations, systems engineering, or a related role • Strong systems thinking: you can map end-to-end workflows, identify failure points, and design scalable solutions • Proficient in scripting and automation (Python, TypeScript, or similar) with demonstrated ability to build tools that eliminate manual work • Deep fluency with data analysis tools (Google Sheets, SQL, BI platforms) and comfort working with large, complex data sets • Experience defining and managing KPIs, SLAs, and operational dashboards that drive decision-making • Excellent communication skills: you can translate technical findings into actionable insights for both engineering teams and executive stakeholders • Experience with workflow automation platforms, tool configuration, and AI-assisted workflows • A bias for action and ownership; you see a gap, you close it. You don't wait for permission to improve a process • Degree in engineering, computer science, operations research, or equivalent practical experience • Experience in K-12 education technology or student transportation • Background in hardware operations, supply chain, or device management (MDM) • Familiarity with tools such as Linear, Salesforce, Vitally, Crisp, or Pendo • Prior experience at a Series A–C stage startup navigating rapid scaling • LEAN, Six Sigma, or equivalent process improvement certification Benefits • Competitive salary • Equity • Benefits Company Overview • BusRight operates a school-bus tracking application that is intended to improve student safety .
