Job Title: Safety and Security Supervisor Reports To: General Manager with a dotted line to the Director of Safety and Sustainability Location: Blacks Harbour, NB Purpose The Safety and Security Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing safety and security operations at assigned locations within a unionized workplace in New Brunswick. This role ensures compliance with applicable Canadian and provincial occupational health and safety legislation requirements, collective agreement provisions, and internal policies. The Supervisor promotes a proactive safety culture, protects people and assets, and works collaboratively with union representatives and employees to resolve safety and security matters. Essential Duties • Monitor, supervise, and coordinate daily safety and security activities to maintain a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. • Ensure compliance with federal and New Brunswick occupational health and safety legislation, WorkSafeNB standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. • Partner with union leadership and joint health and safety committees to assess hazards, resolve safety concerns, and implement corrective measures in accordance with collective agreements. • Conduct routine safety inspections, risk assessments, and security audits; investigate and document unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, and near-misses. • Lead incident response and ensure proper reporting to WorkSafeNB and other appropriate authorities as required by legislation and company policy. • Maintain accurate safety and security records, documentation, and reports for compliance and internal review. • Plan and deliver safety orientations, training, and education sessions for employees, supervisors, and security personnel. • Supervise, support, and guide security staff (where assigned), ensuring consistent application of policies, professional conduct, and operational readiness. • Serve as a primary contact for safety and security issues, including coordination with law enforcement, emergency services, regulatory inspectors, and internal stakeholders. Other Duties • Provide input and support for the development and continuous improvement of safety and security policies, procedures, and emergency response plans that align with legal standards and union obligations. • Participate in joint health and safety committee activities, regular safety meetings, and consultation processes with union representatives. • Support company emergency preparedness planning, drills, and business continuity initiatives. • Advise management and union partners on safety and security best practices, legislative changes, and compliance matters. • Assist with return-to-work planning, accommodation, and rehabilitation processes in coordination with WorkSafeNB, employees, and union representatives. • Perform other duties as required to support organizational safety and security goals. Required PPE • Bump cap, hearing protection, hair net, beard net, gloves, slip resistant, steel toe shoes, eye protection. Education, Experience, and Skills • Preferred secondary education degree. • 3-5 years experience in the safety and security field is ideal. • Additional safety or security certifications (e.g., CRSP, CRST, CHSC, NCSO certifications) are considered an asset. • Strong knowledge of New Brunswick and Canadian occupational health and safety legislation and WorkSafeNB requirements. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a unionized environment, including collaboration with union representatives and committees. • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and conflict-resolution skills. The tasks involved in this job require a variety of physical activities, such as walking and standing for periods of time within a production environment.
