Summary The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow. Areas of Responsibility • Draft, review, and negotiate leases, subleases, and other types of real estate agreements for BNYDC and its subsidiary entities • Provide legal support for complex real estate development deals • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, such as construction and consulting contracts, contract amendments, requests for proposals and other procurement offerings • Work with BNYDC staff, outside counsels, and consultants to review, monitor, prepare responses and provide information in connection with litigation matters • Prepare for and execute Board of Director and committee meetings, including collecting, reviewing, and assembling materials for such meetings • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, contractual commitments, and corporate policies • Ensure that BNYDC and its subsidiary entities are properly protected by their own and third-party insurance policies, including the review and analysis of insurance requirements and certificates • Conduct legal research on new and proposed legislation potentially impacting BNYDC and its subsidiary entities • Anticipate, raise, and mitigate legal issues which could impact BNYDC and its subsidiary entities, advising executives and management as they arise The above duties and responsibilities are not intended to limit specific duties and responsibilities of this position. Required Skills and Abilities • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written • Excellent analytical and diplomatic skills • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize workload and manage projects • Enjoys tackling novel issues and working strategically and innovatively to solve legal problems Qualifications • Degree from an accredited law school and member of NYS Bar required • 2-5 years of private or public sector legal experience • Demonstrated interest in transactional work, particularly in real estate preferred • Interest in litigation and/or compliance preferred BNYDC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
