Job Summary: Responsible for oversight of all daily administration of a specific office location or locations within a designated area or community. Ensures the successful execution of assigned site-based and community-based programs and services, with a strategic focus on coordinating with local partners. Responsible for managing direct and indirect reporting team members, building and promoting team culture, and managing the budget for the assigned area/region. Responsible for facilitating the successful execution of programs, policies, and procedures in the assigned location. Responsible for effective collaboration with support departments across the organization and developing all human resources assigned to the location. GRADE LEVEL CONSIDERATIONS: The scope and complexity of the role will determine the wage grade for each center role taking into consideration factors such as, but not limited to, number of center employees directly or indirectly supervised, size of budget, number of functions reporting to the role, leased versus owned space, and degree of external impact and influence. The grade considerations will also consider the skills, experiences, and cross-organizational impact an individual may have. In general, the following grade level guidelines apply: Level I: May be responsible for a single small or mid-size center with more than 15 team members, have responsibility for more than one center in two separate locations, and/or have cross-organizational responsibilities. Centers may be leased or owned and may have internally managed oversight for facilities at some operational level. Incumbents at this level and above will have cross-organizational responsibilities such as leading process, improvement initiatives, or collaborating with others beyond their immediate centers to achieve results. This may include leading organization-wide initiatives, for example, creating and leading pilot projects. The degree of external impact and influence is moderate to high based on the community's activities and the incumbent's capabilities. Outreach, Development, and other resources may be co-located at the center. May report to the Vice President, Programs and Services, or to the Director, Center Management III. Level II: May be responsible for a single small or mid-size center with more than 15 team members, have responsibility for more than one center in two separate locations, and/or have cross-organizational responsibilities. Level III: In addition to the incumbent capabilities described above, individuals at this level may be responsible for a large, complex center or responsible for a combination of centers across a region, typically more than 3 centers with a combined team member total greater than 25. Centers at this level are owned or a combination of owned/leased property with direct or outsourced management oversight responsibilities. The degree of external impact and influence are considered high based on the activities of the community and the capabilities of the individual incumbent. The Director, Center Manager reports to the Senior Director, Center Management. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Center Operations: Directs the operations of a center relying upon a combination of internal resources and external contracted resources to ensure safe and orderly operations exist. Working closely with Facilities ensuring the safety and maintenance of facilities, including buildings, grounds, and vehicles. Assures compliance with rules, regulations, documentation, and safety requirements for facilities and vehicles. Ensures maintenance of accurate and timely record keeping for the center, including donation receipts, deposits, and acknowledgment of donated funds. Prepares and submits progress reports and statistics to management for review. Checks and approves invoices, purchases, expense reports, team time and attendance. Collaborates with the Vice President of Programs and Services in developing and monitoring center budget(s), goals, objectives and strategic plans. Communicates goals, objectives and plans to direct and indirect team members. May assist the auxiliary with local issues or needs, including providing meeting time and space at the center, reaching out to the local community and providing staff resources to help during an event. Identifies opportunities to maximize the use of center space and resources through events, rentals, and other revenue generating activities. Public and Community Relations: Acts as the primary local contact point for all external constituencies including chambers of commerce, local/county/state/federal government agencies, and other community-based organizations. Responsible for developing networks and partnerships that result in measurable increases to service capacity, referrals, volunteers, brand exposure, and/or fundraising/income sources. Coordinate development-related contacts (such as sponsors or local foundations) in close collaboration with the Senior Director, Partnerships. In collaboration with Marketing & Communications, develops and implements plans to promote the center. Establishes and maintains positive business relationships with donors, community leaders and other agencies providing services to the visually impaired within the center location(s). May conduct presentations, seminars and represent the center through speaking engagements and appearances at special events. Team Leadership: Coordinates closely with the functional managers for areas represented at the location. Provides center specific communications to all constituents (team members, patrons, students) for internal and external events and activities. Acts as the lead culture agent for the center ensuring that Braille Institute of America culture is developed at the center level. Accountable for general management responsibilities, including recruitment, hiring, training/development of direct team members and appraisal of performance including corrective action issues, as necessary. Directs and motivates staff to achieve goals, maximize productivity and promote teamwork. Provides performance feedback/input to Managers for all non-direct report team members. This includes Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Occupational Therapist, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Access Technology, Facilities, and other non-direct reports. Develops and directs efforts to build staff/volunteer awareness of the organization's values, programs, and services. Recognizes staff and volunteer achievements. Program and Services Management: Provides oversight, guidance and coordination for all center programs, services, and classes for those served in close collaboration with Managers. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and services in meeting the specific needs of local communities, to ensure continued quality of services is provided to clients. Recommends changes and improvements as needed to Managers and the Vice President of Programs and Services. Oversees the implementation of new projects and initiatives. Supervisory Responsibilities: Depending on the center, directly supervises center administration team members and multiple positions that may include Instructors, Managers, Coordinator, Specialists, and/or administrative level jobs. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong knowledge of business operations/budget management, marketing/fundraising techniques, and program development/implementation required. Familiarity of diseases of the eye, related research, treatments, and technologies is desirable. Skills and Abilities: Position requires excellent communication, presentation, leadership, decision making, organization, problem solving, team building and marketing skills. The ability to motivate staff and effectively manage regional operations is needed. Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible experience in leadership and management of business operations is strongly preferred. Work experience with non-profit organizations, as well as the visually impaired and/or disabled community is desirable. Work Environment: Position works in a standard office environment.
