A CPA certification and a minimum of 7 years of experience in revenue accounting are required, ideally with a mix of Big 4 Audit and corporate experience. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC606, particularly in the SaaS industry, is essential.

About the Role You will be responsible for Revenue Accounting operations and systems, analysis and report preparation, and ensuring documentation and continued improvement of the organizations policies, processes, and internal controls around Revenue and related Balance Sheet accounts stays up to date. This role will actively prepare and collaborate with others on the team to prepare revenue fluctuation analyses and deferred revenue reconciliations at month-end. Ultimately, this role will work closely with internal customers and leaders of the Finance, Sales, Legal, and Operations teams, to create, implement, evolve, and report on key processes and metrics around Accounts Receivable, Contract Assets and Liabilities, and Revenue. The ideal candidate has excellent problem-solving and communication skills and enjoys working in a challenging and complex environment. What You'll Do: Sustain a team to effectively manage change, people, systems, and processes specific to revenue recognition Oversee processes to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of revenue activities by effectively leveraging automation and technology Maintain, and where applicable establish, internal controls effectively designed and implemented to prevent or detect financial misstatements, fraud, and/or waste, and develops and implements remediation activities to address gaps and audit findings Evaluate contracts, non-standard terms, and contract modification activities to calculate and determine accurate revenue recognition in a timely, complete, and accurate manner Review reconciliations of general ledger accounts and ensure reconciling differences are thoroughly explained and resolved in a timely manner Stay informed on US GAAP policies and procedures, best practices, and technology and implements appropriate training/procedures to ensure staff compliance and accurate application Recommend and implement modifications to improve financial processes and systems and automate manual processes using technology to enhance reporting and oversight responsibilities Serve as primary point of contact for issues relating to contract or revenue recognition related activities on a day-to-day basis, responding accurately to requests for information from internal customers, senior leadership, auditors, and other stakeholders Prepare monthly balance sheet and P&L documentation for submission to leadership Supervise staff, including but not limited to coaching; holding career path discussions; recommending applicant selection; imposing disciplinary actions; and task related issues; directing, reviewing, and approving assignments; approving leave requests and time sheets; and ensuring appropriate training is provided Requirements CPA Certification required Minimum of 7 years’ experience, ideally through a mix of Big 4 Audit experience plus corporate revenue accounting experience (or at least corporate revenue accounting experience) and demonstrated increase of responsibilities and leadership preferably in the technology industry Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP Experienced knowledge and understanding of ASC606 including SaaS revenue recognition, accounting for contract modifications, and non-standard terms A successful track record of improving processes and procedures Familiarity with Intacct, Workday Financials, and Salesforce is strongly preferred Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel Experience with revenue and accounting concepts related to the SaaS industry is strongly preferred Ability to work well in a team-oriented and intensely deadline-driven environment Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate and communicate effectively across all levels of staff inside and outside the department Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote-first environment, including proactively seeking solutions from internal and external resources Ability to prioritize projects, quickly determine the requirements to accomplish them, and analyze processes to figure out how to simplify, automate and improve them for increased efficiency Excellent attention to detail Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and a sense of strong business ethics At Bonterra, we’re building AI-powered tools to solve real human challenges—and we want teammates who share that enthusiasm.
