Full Description

Director Compliance and Security Boingo is looking for a technology leader to oversee Information Security under one executive function within Engineering. This is a critical leadership role for a company that operates secure, high-performance networks in airports, transit hubs, military bases, stadiums, and commercial properties — and that depends on a modern, compliant, and automated corporate technology foundation to support that mission. Beyond internal security, Boingo is also building and delivering security products and services for the venues where we operate. Across military installations, airports, transit systems, stadiums, and other large-scale environments, security is becoming an essential part of the DAS, private network, and Wi-Fi solutions we design, deploy, and manage for our customers. Boingo is actively developing a venue-focused security offering, supported by the product team and delivered in close partnership with Security, Engineering, and Network Operations. This leader will help ensure our internal security organization is strong enough to support both enterprise compliance and this growing customer-facing security business. This leader will oversee both the teams that keep employees productive and the teams that keep Boingo secure, including the Security Compliance / GRC function (led by a GRC Manager) and the Cybersecurity function (led by a Cybersecurity Engineer Manager). The role partners closely with Engineering, Network Operations, Product, Legal, HR, Finance, and Operations. We are looking for a leader with deep experience operating mixed enterprise environments spanning Microsoft 365 / Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Mac and Windows endpoints, while building and maturing programs aligned to NIST, GRC, and SOC 2. The ideal candidate understands how to scale security beyond the corporate perimeter — supporting secure network deployments and security product offerings in complex, multi-tenant venue environments. They thrive at the intersection of security, compliance, product delivery, and practical IT operations, and know how to build high-performing teams that automate instead of relying on manual ticket-driven workflows. Responsibilities Security, GRC & Compliance Provide executive leadership over Information Security, including GRC and Cybersecurity functions Own and mature Boingo's GRC program, including risk register management, control mapping, evidence collection, and audit readiness Maintain alignment with NIST, SOC 2, and applicable regulatory and contractual obligations Partner with IT, Legal, HR, Finance, and Engineering on policy development, vendor security, incident response, and risk acceptance Ensure security architecture, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, logging/monitoring, and endpoint security programs operate effectively across the enterprise Venue Security Product & Network Security Partner with Product, Engineering, and Network Operations to support the development and delivery of Boingo's venue security offering Ensure security requirements are embedded into DAS, private network, and Wi-Fi network designs, deployments, and ongoing operations for customer venues Align internal security standards, controls, and operational practices with the security capabilities Boingo delivers to airports, transit systems, military bases, stadiums, and other large-scale environments Support go-to-market, customer, and operational readiness for venue security products and services Serve as a senior security voice in cross-functional discussions involving network architecture, product roadmap, deployment, and customer support Leadership & Strategy Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing leadership team Define annual Security strategy, roadmap, and budget in alignment with Engineering and company objectives Unify IT operations and security into a single control plane for identity, devices, and access Serve as escalation point for major incidents, audit findings, control gaps, and operational outages Represent Security in executive forums, audit activities, customer security reviews, and cross-functional governance Perform other duties/projects as requested by senior management Requirements 5+ years of experience in information technology, information security, or infrastructure leadership, with 3+ years in people management Proven success leading security/GRC functions, or equivalently large infrastructure and compliance organizations Deep working knowledge of NIST cybersecurity frameworks, GRC program operation, and SOC 2 audit readiness Hands-on executive experience operating a multi-platform enterprise, including: Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Conditional Access Google Workspace and Google Admin Mixed Mac and Windows endpoint environments (Jamf, Intune, or equivalent MDM) Corporate networking, VPN/Zero Trust access, and SaaS identity integration Experience applying security controls and governance in complex network or multi-site operational environments; experience in telecommunications, venue, or service-provider environments strongly preferred Experience partnering with product, engineering, and network teams to deliver secure services or security-enabled offerings to customers Experience with SIEM, EDR, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, and GRC platforms (e.g., ZenGRC or equivalent) Demonstrated ability to partner with Engineering on secure architecture, cloud/platform security, and remediation of audit or scan findings Strong executive communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership, auditors, customers, and business stakeholders Track record of building automation-first organizations that reduce manual touchpoints and improve compliance posture Proven ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organizational structure Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications Master's degree CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, or equivalent certifications Experience in telecommunications, SaaS, or regulated industries Familiarity with ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CCPA/GDPR, or customer-driven security frameworks Experience supporting security in DAS, Wi-Fi, private network, or carrier/venue network environments Background supporting federal, DoD, transit, aviation, or other highly regulated venue customers Experience leading Google Workspace migration or role-based collaboration platform segmentation Meet Boingo – named among the Best Places to Work!
