The Health Information Management Analyst analyzes medical records for compliance with standards and regulations related to patient information. They create reports, maintain databases, and track statistical information for hospital programs and activities.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, with an associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience in administrative or operational analysis and at least 1 year in medical record functions is required.
Position: Health Information Management Analyst Department: Health Information Management Schedule: Full Time, (40 hrs, Days) POSITION SUMMARY: Analyzes medical records for compliancy with standards, rules and regulations related to patient information. Analyzes findings captured in databases for trends, changes and areas of concern. Creates reports, maintains databases and tracks statistical information. Performs specialized professional level administrative, organizational, systems, budgetary and related analysis for hospital programs and activities. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree preferred (preference for RHIT); Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred (preference for RHIA) EXPERIENCE: Requires minimum of 3 years’ experience in performing administrative, operational or similar analysis; minimum one year of experience performing medical record functions. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Must have knowledge of principles and practices of public administration; local, state and Federal regulations and laws related to health care; Must have through familiarity with basic data sampling and statistical analysis techniques; computer applications related to duties; project management and analytical techniques; Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9 (and subsequent versions) and CPT-4, and other required data to ensure accurate coding and billing. Ability to provide professional, analytical and programmatic work; carrying assigned projects through, from data gathering to completion. Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Ability to maintain accurate records and files; preparing clear and concise reports, validating accuracy prior to distribution. Effective communication, both written and oral, to communicate with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Ability to contributing effectively to accomplishment of team or work unit activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with personnel contacted in the course of duties.
