Description Bloomsbury Publishing is looking for a Senior Publicist in our Children's Trade division. The incumbent will devise and implement publicity plans for children's book titles; coordinate publicity events; maintain relationships with authors, media and event venues. They will bring each book in with a clear vision for its development, its audience, and its potential. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a group environment are necessary. Key Responsibilities • Work independently on 5-7 campaigns per season, publicizing books and authors of children’s books, including picture books, chapter books, middle grade, and teen titles. • Organize author tours with bookstore events and school visits with accompanying media, influencer events, and stock signings. • Pitch and arrange features with national, regional and local broadcast, print, and online media, developing proper angles and pitches. • Actively cultivate and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, local, and online. • Create press releases, pitch letters and other promotional book campaign materials that will successfully achieve media objectives in local, regional, institutional, and national outlets. • Work closely with colleagues in marketing, editorial, and sales departments to create a clear and thorough publicity effort for all titles. • Manage departmental festival and consumer conference pitches. • Attend conferences, author interviews and tours as needed. • Effectively communicate publicity protocols and campaign processes to authors while managing expectations. • Manage and maintain publicity budget for assigned titles. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2-5+ years of experience in publicity with experience or interest in children’s books. Minimum 2 years of experience for Publicist role, minimum 4 years for Senior Publicist role. • Exceptional and effective communication skills, both oral and written. • Strong relationships with parenting, teen, and top-line national and broadcast media. • Proven ability to generate creative angles and pitches. • Fastidious attention to detail, highly organized, and able to keep to and/or work ahead of deadlines. • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. • Excellent skills in diplomacy, a strong sense of initiative and high level of professionalism. • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow-up and follow through. • Ability to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances in a highly collaborative team environment. • Possess a strong working knowledge of what is fresh in the media landscape and apply this knowledge to assigned projects and campaigns. • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Publicity Assistant, Cision, Biblio, UPS CampusShip, NetGalley, and social media. Location All candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area and be able to commute to our NY headquarters on a hybrid-remote schedule 2 days per week. Compensation Publicists can expect a salary of $60,080 - $66,000. Senior Publicists can expect a salary of $67,000 - $73,000.
