Summary Job Description: Baptist Health Medical Group Certified Surgical Assistant Vascular Surgery St. Matthews area Full Time/First Shift The Surgical First Assist in general surgery assists the supervising surgeon(s) in the management of patients under the direct supervision of the surgeon(s). The Surgical First Assist works closely and assists the surgeon in providing quality, efficient and continuous and cost-effective care in the operating room as well as in the medical office setting. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time. Assist surgeon(s) in Intra-operative care – First and second assist to the surgeon(s) in the operating room adhering to all surgical standards including aseptic techniques and protocols. Assist in preparation of patient for procedure. Closure of incisions as delegated by the attending surgeon. On-call availability for after-hours/weekend surgical cases Assist surgeon in the medical office - Provides assistance to the surgeon in the office setting including rooming patients, interviewing and documenting history and physical exam, post-op wound checks and suture removal. Other office duties as requested or assigned by the surgeon(s) and/or practice manager. Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required: Licensed Surgical First Assist in good standing. To be eligible for a certificate a person shall hold and maintain certification by one (1) of the following: The National Surgical Assistant Association; or The Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologists 3-5 years' experience as Surgical First Assist in general surgery cases strongly preferred.
