The Applications Engineer is a critical technical partner responsible for delivering timely and accurate support to our internal and external customers. This role owns the frontline technical journey, handling frontline technical inquiries, from initial product selection and application sizing to basic troubleshooting. This is a high-growth potential role designed for an engineer early in their career. The AE will be mentored by senior staff to build deep expertise in vacuum and pressure technology. Success is measured by response time, solution accuracy, customer satisfaction, and a demonstrated ability to learn and advance within the engineering team. Responsibilities Frontline Technical Support & Application Sizing • Serve as the primary technical contact for standard technical inquiries from the sales team, distributors, and end-users via phone and email. • Analyze customer requirements (flow, pressure, application details) to accurately size and select the appropriate vacuum pump, compressor, or system. • Provide basic troubleshooting, installation guidance, and operational support. • Assist in identifying and selecting correct spare parts and accessories. Sales & Customer Enablement • Collaborate closely with the Sales team to provide technical data, performance curves, and application notes to support the quotation process. • Utilize 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to provide standard model drawings to customers and make minor modifications to existing layouts for sales proposals. • Help maintain and distribute technical documentation, ensuring sales and customers have access to current datasheets and manuals. Process & Personal Development • Clearly document technical inquiries and solutions in the company’s CRM/ERP systems. • Document and escalate complex design, system integration, or advanced application challenges to Senior Engineers, acting as the liaison until resolution. • Actively participate in product and application training to build a comprehensive understanding of Becker's product lines. • Identify opportunities to improve technical support workflows and documentation. Qualifications • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field. • 0-3 years of experience in a technical role, such as junior engineer, technical support, or inside sales. Relevant internship or co-op experience is highly valued. • Basic proficiency with 2D or 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks). • Strong mechanical aptitude and genuine curiosity for how industrial equipment works. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP or CRM systems is a plus. • A high degree of accountability, ownership, and a drive to find the right answer. • Customer-first mindset with a passion for solving technical problems. • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills. • Proactive and resourceful; able to navigate challenges and find solutions. • Curious, driven, and passionate about building a long-term career in engineering.
